The Bencés Abbey of Tihany was founded in 1055 by King Andrew I in honour of St. Ányos and the Virgin Mary. The abbey's confectionery has been open for 60 years, and in 2018 they added a kitchen, serving breakfast and hot meals. On one of the most beautiful terraces overlooking Lake Balaton, you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee in the nice weather, which should be accompanied by a delicious cake: according to the regulars, the lavender “krémes” and the Bencés cake with peach chutney with furmint are a sin to miss.
