One of the most famous sights on the northern shore of Lake Balaton is Benedictine Abbey of Tihany. Standing proudly on the steep edge of the volcanic mountain range of the Tihany Peninsula, the monastery was founded by King András I in 1055 in honour of St. Ányos and the Virgin Mary. Most of the abbey can be visited all year round, so you can enjoy not only the breathtaking panorama, but also the majestic architectural and cultural monuments and the beautiful inner gardens. In addition, if you buy a combined ticket, you can also participate in a special tasting at the Abbey Rege Confectionery belonging to the monastery.
