A forest adventure base at the gateway to the Bükk Mountains: Oxigén Family Hotel, Noszvaj
The Oxigén Family Hotel in Noszvaj is a true family-friendly haven nestled among the forested slopes of the Bükk Mountains. The concept of Hungary’s first four-star, all-inclusive children’s hotel is simple yet brilliant: there should always be something for the little ones to discover! This baby- and child-friendly hotel offers an almost endless array of activities: explore the enchanting 4-hectare park with its ancient trees, immerse yourself in the Zen Spa family wellness realm, or choose from one of the 60 hours of weekly adventure and creative programs.
In addition to its many family-friendly amenities, the Oxigén Family Hotel stands out for its proximity to nature. The Noszvaj region is full of lookout points and hiking trails, and it is also one of the towns with the cleanest air in the country. We warmly recommend the sauna infusions and wellness treatments to parents while the kids take part in the entertainment programs.
If we only have one day: trips from Budapest to the Danube Bend
It’s quite possible that, no matter how much we want to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, we only have one day available. Even in this case, you don’t have to miss out on water adventures: with MAHART PassNave’s departures from Budapest, you can reach the magical, jewel-box towns of the Danube Bend – such as Esztergom, Szentendre, or Visegrád – in an adventurous and comfortable way. Parents with young children know this well: the boat trip itself can be an experience. From the deck, the Danube’s bends, the mountains, and the riverside towns unfold from a completely different perspective. All you need for a memorable family outing is a stroll through the cobblestone streets, an ice cream in the main square, and then a pleasant boat ride back to Budapest.
Jungle adventure, go-karts, and log cabins: Avalon Resort & SPA, Miskolctapolca
On the northern side of the Bükk Mountains, we find an amazing family-friendly destination: Avalon Resort & SPA is the perfect choice for families who want to combine a nature-oriented getaway with exciting – even extreme – activities. The complex offers elegant suites and separate log cabins – the latter of which will be available in a renovated state starting from the end of April 2026.
One of the resort’s most popular attractions is the 580-meter HELL Kart electric go-kart track, where older children and adventurous parents can test their skills. Meanwhile, younger children can explore the Maya Playground and Jungle Playhouse, which feature a variety of slides, climbing structures, and interactive games. Avalon is also one of our favourites because there’s no need to compromise on the culinary front: the menu at Avalon Ristorante features Italian classics, while at The Club Avalon you can sample Hungarian, Middle Eastern, and Far Eastern dishes.
Morning coffee among tigers and zebras: Richter Safari Park, Nagykőrös
You can enjoy a truly unique experience at Richter Safari Park in Nagykőrös. Here, visitors can drift off to sleep in a genuine safari atmosphere. On the 32-hectare grounds, 10 lakeside cottages are situated next to the safari lake, while 10 luxury glamping tents are nestled in a shady grove adjacent to the animal enclosures. Near the lakeside cottages, you can spend the night in the company of elephants, lions, and tigers, while the tents are situated close to antelopes, camels, and zebras. If you book accommodation in the park, you’ll also have unlimited access to the safari park during opening hours, therefore, in addition to daytime activities, you can experience the authentic African atmosphere in the evening and early morning, as well.
A global adventure on the shores of Lake Balaton: Mövenpick BalaLand Resort Lake Balaton, Szántód
If there is a hotel inspired by the world of children’s fairy tales, then the Mövenpick BalaLand Resort Lake Balaton in Szántód is certainly one of them. The atmosphere of this five-star, family-friendly hotel and the adjacent BalaLand FamilyPark was inspired by Jules Verne’s legendary novel, Around the World in Eighty Days. In the themed areas, exotic stops, child-friendly rooms and suites, unique modes of transportation, an unparalleled water kingdom, and Willy Fog himself evoke the world of great travel.
The BalaLand FamilyPark is open to both hotel guests and outside visitors. Adventures await across approximately 10,000 square meters of this adventure realm: you can take a train ride around Europe, travel by airship, or even “visit” London and Egypt. The park also features an impressive water area with adventure pools, a unique slide zone, and an outdoor water playground.
Hello Hungary’s tip: If your family includes true water lovers – the kind who practically have webbed fingers – it’s worth choosing accommodations connected to a water park. There are several such destinations among the spas certified by the Hungarian Spa Association. On the organization’s website, you can easily filter for spas that have a hotel in the same building. There are plenty of great options among baby- and family-friendly destinations: consider, for example, the Balance Resort Thermal Bath in Lenti, the Kehida Thermal and Adventure Bath in Kehidakustány, the NaturMed Hotel Carbona in Hévíz, or the Saliris Resort in Egerszalók. Whichever one you choose, the Hungarian Spa Association’s certification system can serve as a reliable guide in making your decision.
One of our favourites, however, is the Zalakaros Family, Adventure, and Thermal Bath, where, in addition to the certified thermal waters dating back to 1978, there is a seemingly endless array of family-friendly attractions. In addition to the indoor children’s area, you can practically get lost among the exciting zones of the 12-hectare outdoor beach, and if you are looking for extreme challenges, be sure to try the amazing slides at the Adrenaline Slide Park.
Here you’ll find slides enhanced with light effects that evoke whitewater rapids, as well as a 105-meter-long slide and one where you can zoom down at speeds of up to 70 km/h!
If all this sounds a bit daunting at first, indoors, younger kids can test their courage on three slides of varying difficulty levels or splash around in the colourful, exciting water playground. Adults can try out the services of the modern yet traditional wellness center and the sauna oasis, and the whole family can unwind from the day’s activities at the Fürdő Hotel in Zalakaros!
The Hungarian Spa Association is an association of business organizations and entrepreneurs operating spas. With significant professional authority, the association has been preserving and protecting the traditions of Hungarian spa culture for 34 years, actively participating in the design, development, construction, and operation of spas in Hungary. The organization has also been a member of the European Spas Association since 1998.
Our digital SZÉP Card can be a reliable companion even while traveling
Spring and summer are typically among the busiest periods of the year for SZÉP Card usage. According to Csaba Soós, Executive Director of Retail Business Development at MBH Bank, digitalization has quickly gained popularity among their customers, and this trend is expected to continue.
“We believe that the possibility of card digitization can give new momentum to the use of SZÉP Cards, as it offers a more convenient payment option. Our goal during development was to ensure that our customers could seamlessly transition to digital use while retaining their existing cards and the currently operational backend systems, without having to apply for a new card. A particular benefit for customers is that the SZÉP Card can now be digitized into Google Wallet or Apple Wallet with just a few clicks, making payments faster and simpler. The card stored in the digital wallet is convenient because there’s no need to take out the physical card during payment,” says Csaba Soós.
The range of uses remains extensive: until April 30, 2026, the SZÉP Card can even be used to purchase cold food items, which provides flexible assistance to many families in their daily lives. The Active Hungarians sub-account, meanwhile, opens up a new, targeted opportunity for customers: this balance can be used exclusively for sports, encouraging a health-conscious lifestyle and regular exercise.
Information regarding digitalization is available to customers on the MBH SZÉP-kártya.hu website.
