Szabó Sára

There are times when, during our vacation, we’d rather hear the bleating of sheep than the noise of traffic, and gaze at the stars instead of watching TV in the evening. There’s no shame in not feeling like going on a city tour or cramming visits to all the local attractions into a single day. Without claiming to be exhaustive, we’ve put together a selection of accommodations where, far from the noise of the world, you can relax in a hammock or a tub and spend a long time admiring the sun as it dips behind the hillside.

The article reveals:

Where to find peaceful, nature-oriented, family-friendly accommodations

What additional amenities (tub, garden, bicycles) are available

What local activities are associated with the accommodations

Grafit Kabin, Nagykanizsa

On the outskirts of Nagykanizsa, near Csónakázó-tó (Boating Lake) and beyond the city’s noise, you’ll find Grafit Kabin. Nestled in the embrace of the forest, this unique A-frame cabin will sweep you off your feet just by its appearance – but looks aren’t everything. In the Grafit Kabin, a ladder leads up to the loft, where a playful, cozy sleeping nook awaits the little ones.

What makes this cabin special is that, thanks to its walls consisting almost entirely of glass, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the lakeshore and the forest not only from the terrace but also from the living room.

You can lounge in the relaxation hammock on the gallery, take a dip in the hot tub, or build a fire in the garden. Once the kids have fallen asleep, you can open a bottle of fine wine. During the day, the area offers plenty of activities for families seeking active recreation: we can visit one of the country’s highest observation towers, the Nagykanizsa Observation Tower; take a stroll down to the nearby Csónakázó-tó; or explore the Madárerdő Nature Trail and the Kaszó Canopy Trail to discover the unique bird species of the Zala region. For those seeking more extreme adventures, we warmly recommend climbing the Kőszikla Gorge in Nagybakónak, where a unique series of iron ladders leads up the sandstone walls.

Katica Farm, Patca

Nestled among the rolling hills of Zselic, on the outskirts of Patca, lies Katica Farm, which is undoubtedly one of the country’s most beloved family-friendly adventure centres. On the 13-hectare estate, visitors can choose from more than a hundred indoor and outdoor attractions, thus children of all ages – and even parents – can easily find their favourite activities. With the electric go-kart track, the playhouse, the petting zoo, and programs showcasing traditional rural life, you can even get involved in animal care or try your hand at kneading bread dough. In addition to all this, you can explore the Adventure Cave and the Knight’s Castle, and ride the Matyi train, while younger children can enjoy the barrel ride.

It’s worth spending several days in the area; in that case, you can stay in family apartments converted from some of the village’s rural houses.

Oxigén Family Hotel Noszvaj

Noszvaj, located at the gateway to the Bükk Mountains, is an excellent destination for long weekends and summer vacations. This is where you’ll find the country’s first four-star, all-inclusive family hotel, the Oxigén Family Hotel. Located in an enchanting, wooded setting, this accommodation is an excellent choice if you’re looking to get away from it all, but it’s also important that there’s plenty for the little ones to explore. You can take pleasant walks in the 4-hectare park with its ancient trees, relax together with the kids in the Zen Spa family wellness area, and participate in a variety of activities all day long thanks to the organized programs.

There are also numerous hiking trails and lookout points in the area, therefore you can easily combine exploring the Bükk Mountains with relaxation. For example, it’s worth exploring the Cserépfalvi Visitor Park, walking the Ördög-torony (meaning: Devil’s Tower) nature trail, and admiring the cave dwellings. While the little ones take part in children’s activities, adults can recharge with wellness treatments or a sauna session.

Zichy Family Adventure Estate

To the great delight of the region and the country, the Zichy Family Adventure Estate in Bikács, Tolna County, reopened its doors in 2026. At this wonderful 12-hectare resort, moments spent together play just as important a role as peaceful relaxation. At this baby- and family-friendly hotel, breakfast and dinner are part of the experience: meals are freshly prepared in the open kitchen, a separate buffet is available for children, and there is direct access from the restaurant to the “Erdei Kuckó” (meaning: Forest Nook), the property’s special children’s playhouse. This way, parents can comfortably finish their dinner while the children play nearby.

On the estate, everyone – from the youngest to the older children – can have fun through play, adventure, and discovery! At the Zichy Family Adventure Estate, you’ll find animals, a doll corner, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, creative workshops, and water attractions – and the activity leaders are on hand all day with exciting programs for the kids. The fun doesn’t stop even when it rains: in that case, there’s a two-story playhouse, as well as table football, ping-pong, and the Touch Game Table. The family wellness area features an aroma sauna, a baby pool, an adventure pool, a salt room, and countless water toys. Thanks to the baby-friendly services, strollers, cribs, and a variety of useful equipment are available, therefore you don’t have to bring everything from home.

Hello Hungary tip: While the kids play carefree, it’s worth signing up for the adventure estate’s programs: you can take part in an estate tour, a wine tasting, or a wellness program!
