The Tuscan hills, long lunches enjoyed on the terrace, and a slower pace evoke images of a distant journey for many. Yet you don’t necessarily have to go all the way to Italy to find a similar atmosphere. Here at home, you can also find places where hillsides, rows of vineyards, and terraces create this experience.

Hilltop Wine Estate & Restaurant

Nap-völgy Winery and Experience Estate

These aren’t copies, but rather a similar rhythm. When you are not in a hurry, when a lunch doesn’t end too quickly, and when the view, the long conversations, and the clinking of glasses are just as much a part of the meal as what is served on the table.

We’ve collected local wineries and dining spots where this atmosphere comes naturally, and where it is easy to slow down a bit.

Panoramic views and long lunches on the hilltop

At Hilltop Wine Estate & Restaurant, the “Tuscan” vibe begins with the view. From the terrace of the estate, nestled on the slopes of the Gerecse Hills, the Danube Valley and the vineyards come into view at once, immediately setting the tone for the place.

The winery is a key player in the Neszmély wine region, with a history spanning several decades. The accompanying restaurant is designed specifically around the wines and the panorama: sitting on the terrace, the goal isn’t a quick lunch, but rather to take your time with the meal. The dishes are paired with the wines, and the menu is streamlined.

An afternoon can easily drag on here. Not because there’s a lot to do, but because there’s no reason to rush, and the atmosphere is very close to what we consider to be Tuscan.

Relaxing evenings on the shores of lake Balaton

Terazza Bistro-Bar is located on the hillside below Sümeg Castle. The terrace offers a direct view of the castle and the surrounding landscape, which in itself defines the character of the place.

The restaurant serves modern European cuisine with a Mediterranean atmosphere. The menu features both à la carte dishes and tasting menus, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients in the preparation of the dishes.

Here, the “dolce vita” is more evident in the dining experience itself. Due to the terrace layout and the multi-course menus, eating is not a quick, but a more time-consuming, gradually fulfilling experience. The view of the castle and the spacious setting together create the atmosphere characteristic of Mediterranean dining.

A slower pace near Eger

Behind the Nap-völgy Winery and Experience Estate, located near Eger, lies a conscious decision: to build not on quick experiences, but on lasting impressions. According to the estate owners’ core philosophy, in today’s world – where everything revolves around consumption and speed – there is increasing value in being able to pause and pay attention to what is happening around you.

The estate’s philosophy consciously points in this direction. They do not seek to provide quick impulses, but lasting impressions. The wine can also be understood within this framework: not a precisely controlled end product, but a story that speaks of the landscape, the climate, and the specific vintage.

This approach is also reflected in the dining experience. The Mediterranean atmosphere here is not merely a backdrop: as you savour lunches and dinners made from seasonal ingredients served on the terrace, you slow down, and the Sunday breakfasts explicitly “invite” you to take enough time to linger at the table. The menu changes constantly, but the rhythm remains the same.

Here, the “dolce vita” isn’t just a special experience – it’s the whole point. It’s evident in the way the hosts approach the wine, in how the food is prepared, and in the fact that they don’t try to rush things. Instead, they let the day unfold in its own way – and let you linger in the moment a little longer.

When pace matters

“La dolce vita” isn’t a replica of a specific place. It’s more of a rhythm: when dining and wine-drinking aren’t just quick stops, but the experience itself.

In these places, you don’t have to go out of your way to find it. The landscape, the terraces, and the style of hospitality all come together to set a pace where slowing down feels natural.

And perhaps that is exactly why you don’t have to go all the way to Tuscany.
