Tradition and experimentation in Miskolc
There are several places in the town of Miskolc where beer is brewed. For example, the Gyertyános Brewery has been operating since 1996, and in addition to classic lagers and brown beers, it now produces more than ten types of fruity and special beers – from banana to pineapple-lime, from quince to plum. One of the brewery's prides, the Baltic Porter, won a silver medal in a prestigious international competition in 2025, proving that high quality can be found even among small-scale rural beers.
The Fekete és Fiai Kézműves Sörfőzde (Fekete and Sons Craft Brewery) which has been operating as a family business for nearly twenty years and focuses primarily on producing bottom-fermented, lager-type beers, occupies a special place in the small-scale brewery palette of Miskolc. The brewery's permanent offering includes the classic, light, slightly aromatic Diósgyőri Világos, the full-bodied, roasted malt Diósgyőri Fekete and the fruity, refreshing Diósgyőri Kriek. The brewery is also actively present at local community events, and its beers can often be enjoyed at events. The company therefore not only produces beer, but also keeps the local beer culture alive.
Bathing and beer experience in one
The Craft Beer Spa in Szarvaskő offers a completely different experience: here you can not only taste beer, but also bathe in beer. During the beer bath therapy, you can relax in 36-38 °C water made with malt, hops and herbal extracts, while you can sip unlimited amounts of draft craft beers. The beer-wellness experience is complemented by a tourmaline infrared sauna and relaxation, making this an extraordinary wellness-gastronomic programme for weekend getaways.
Brewery visit
The NOPARA Gyógysertár is located in Tiszafüred, and visiting it is also a special programme. In addition to classic light and brown lagers, you can also taste batches made according to their own recipe, but what makes NOPARA truly special is that they regularly organize brewery visits. After prior registration, you can observe the brewing process, learn about the ingredients, the technique and the history of the brewery, and then at the end of the visit you can taste freshly tapped batches. This approach gives a deeper insight not only to beer enthusiasts, but also to those who want to understand how malt and hops turn into a sparkling drink.
New player
Abodee Brewery is a real fresh, exciting player in the northern beer scene. It opened its doors in 2025 in a small village in Borsod, Abod, and quickly attracted the attention of domestic craft beer fans. Among their beers you find classic lagers and wheat beers, as well as new-wave IPA and New England IPA versions, which makes the Abodee's collection complete.
