Tálod Goat and Animal Farm: Nature-based experiences in the Balaton Uplands
We can get a glimpse into everyday country life at this family-run farm in the Pula-Tálod area. Here, we can observe the gentle Alpine goats, Highland cattle, horses and the residents of the poultry yard up close. Children love feeding and stroking the animals, whilst adults are enchanted by the locally made cheeses. If you visit the Goat and Animal Farm in Tálod, be sure to try their special, premium French-style goat’s cheeses, which offer a thrilling taste experience.
It’s worth visiting the farm from spring to autumn; a tour and tasting session usually takes an hour or two. The farm regularly takes part in the Open Farm Days, during which organised programmes are also available for visitors.
It is recommended that you book in advance, so that your hosts can prepare for your arrival.
Korosajt Workshop: Cheese manufactory and glamping in Nemesbük
On this farm in a peaceful little village in Zala County, every single cow is known by name, and during Advent weekends, they are even dressed in Christmas jumpers. Who could resist a family photo with cows dressed up for the festivities? In addition to the spectacle, you can also sample rare cheeses at this time of year, such as ‘hermelin’, a Czech-inspired, marinated cheese speciality that develops its distinctive flavour whilst maturing in a spicy, oily marinade.
The workshop, known for its Jersey cows and spicy cheeses organises family and children’s programmes on the farm all year round, where guided tastings show visitors how the cheese is made and how it ends up on our plates. Apart from open days, advance booking is essential before visiting.
If you’d like to spend more time on the farm, there’s also a special accommodation option available: you can relax in a cosy glamping tent, nestled in the gentle embrace of nature, whilst enjoying the company of the animals.
Pitypalatty Backyard Farm: Tranquillity and goat’s cheese in Tilaj
Nestled amongst the rolling hills of Zala, in Tilaj, lies the Pitypalatty Háztáji Farm. This goat farm and cheese-making workshop is an oasis of peace amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. During their regularly organised farm tours and open days, they showcase the farm’s daily life, the goats, the poultry yard and the horses. From their product range, it’s well worth trying the uniquely flavoured goat’s milk curds, yoghurts and cream cheeses, but don’t miss out on the mature hard cheeses either!
A farm visit can last as long as a few hours: you’ll be shown round the livestock and told about daily life on the farm, traditional animal husbandry, furthermore, how the cheeses and dairy products are made.
If you’re not making a visit on an open day, be sure to arrange a time with the hosts in advance!
The recommended farms are easily accessible by car, with parking available on site, but you can also get there by bike.
