Tulip harvest in Máriakálnok, the famous shrine
In the village of Máriakálnok, surrounded by the Mosoni-Danube and the Kálnok Danube Branch, you can admire no less than 120,000 tulips in 30 different colours at the Kálnok Lavender and Tulip Farm. During the Pick-your-own days organized in the heart of Szigetköz, you can browse among the tulips of various colours and varieties, and if that was not enough, you can also admire the beauty of thousands of daffodils and hyacinths. A plus point is that entry to the farm is free, we only have to pay a modest amount for the gathered flowers. Thus, if we were to come to the Máriakálnok farm to take photos or have a picnic, we can do that too! At the farm, you can also buy a bucket or a basket for picking flowers. The harvest is of course affected by the weather and flowering, but the programme is planned to last from the middle of April to the middle of May.
Hello Hungary tip: Máriakálnok is not only worth visiting for the tulips! Legendary healings are associated with the small settlement. One of the most well-known legends holds that the Hungarian armies fleeing from the Turks rested at the spring on the border of Máriakálnok. Their wounds were cleaned with spring water, which miraculously healed immediately. The area around the spring is extremely peaceful and exudes exceptional tranquillity – it is worth admiring it! There are also excellent bicycle paths in the area, for example, a super bicycle path leads from Mosonmagyaróvár to Máriakálnok, but you can also come from Halászi on two wheels.
Magical tulip fields on the south coast in Kőröshegy
Anyone who is a big fan of lavender, this captivating, aromatic, Provençal herb, surely does not need to be introduced to one of the biggest lavender fields in our country, the Lavender Field of Kőröshegy. However, the wonderland located on the southern shore of Lake Balaton is not only a champion in lavender: in the autumn, great programs, delicacies for the pantry shelf, a seedling and tulip fair, and in the spring a tulip harvest await you! In the framework of the latter programme, you can dawdle among nearly half a million tulips, you can take photos and marvel at them, but - perhaps the best thing of all - you can pick the fragrant flowers yourself! In addition to the entry ticket of HUF 1,000, we can collect bouquets of colourful tulips at a favourable price, which can smell sweet in our homes for a long time afterwards. Among the flowers of different colours, shapes and forms, it is an experience to roam, click and discover the places separated for the purpose of photography.
The programme starts every year from the second half of April, which is, of course, influenced by the weather of the year and the beginning of flowering.
Family pick-your-own tulip harvest on the vineyard in Decs
Compared to the Kőröshegy Lavender Field, the Tulip Garden located on the vineyard of Decs promises a modest but familiar tulip harvest to those interested. Within the framework of the pick-your-own campaign organized from the end of March, exciting programs, craft drinks, oven-baked food, a farmers' market and a petting zoo await those visiting here. In addition to colourful and fragrant tulips, we can also pick daffodils and hyacinths in our spring bouquet.
In addition to Decs, the Tulip Garden has 9 other domestic tulip gardens to thank, we can find dazzling flower fields, inter alia, in Csákvár, in the Danube Bend and at Lake Tisza.
Sacral tulip picking in the mandalas in Bálványos
In the Kincsek Völgye of Bálványos, you will not find ordinary flower fields in the middle of spring! Zsuzsanna Timár, the hostess of the farm, brings a surprising change to her already colourful garden: she plants her flowers in special shapes! Spiral lines, hexagons, concentric circles touching each other and mandalas. Here you will find a labyrinth of bushes, tulip mandalas planted according to colour, a fruit tree plantation of 250 different varieties, a cozy tea room, lavender fields and a cottage built only from recycled materials, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the wonderland that spreads out in the valley. And in April, the harvesting of one of the stars of spring, the tulip, begins! Every weekend in April, from Friday to Sunday, you can come to pick tulips in the Kincsek Völgye, where you can collect the colourful flowers after buying an entrance ticket.
