Kávésdoboz (‘Coffee Box’) Coffee Bar & Deli, Eger
“The little pleasures of life” – that is the slogan of the Coffee Box, where you can find almost everything: delicatessen, café, breakfast bar, burger bar and bakery. The café in Eger was opened by a couple, Magdolna and Frigyes, with the aim of exploring the taste buds with good flavours. And they make it extremely easy to do so with a huge choice. Their sourdough bakery sells the breads and pastries of Szabi the baker: ciabatta, baguettes and other pastries. The couple’s aim is to produce their delicious snacks free of unnecessary additives and they buy what they can from local small producers. You can buy there fantastic Bükk cheeses, Hortobágy beef, Fajsz paprika, local chocolate and much more. But instead, let’s visit the Coffee Box and, while we are there, try the pistachio and grape cruffins. You will hardly regret it!
Makmoiselle Bakery, Veszprém
Veszprém’s first sourdough bakery, Makmoiselle, opened in 2020 and quickly won the hearts of locals and visitors alike. The bakery was opened by mother and son, Gabriella and Gergely, with the determination to work only with sourdough. In addition to the high quality and taste of the baked goods, the spectacular bakery and the cosy interior will make you want to visit Makmoiselle. The only challenge is to choose the pastries to go with the coffee, because in addition to breads, baguettes and yeast cakes, you can also taste babkas, tarts, cocoa snails and brioche.

Már vártalak (‘I've already been waiting for you’), Székesfehérvár
The charming name refers to a charming bakery in Székesfehérvár, where the owners promise to slow down time. This place started as a bookshop, and later the bakery was opened. And the café still functions as a cultural space, with a book club, swing night and other cozy events. The bakery is open until 6 p.m., and the baked goods are baked continuously so that the counter is not empty by the afternoon. If you live in the area or are on your way to Lake Balaton, it is worth a visit to the bakery, slowing down with a delicious coffee, a poppy wreath and a book, enjoying the pleasure of knowing you have been expected.
Pallag Spájz (Pallag Pantry), Debrecen
The Pallag Spájz in Debrecen also stands on several legs: it is a bakery, bistro and pantry. Located on the outskirts of Debrecen, in Pallag, the cosy little house is full of delicacies: salads, creams and special pastries. Thematic days are often organised around the culture of a country or a particular raw material. The bakery is open at any time of the day, with quality and special treats available until 7 p.m.

Platán Bakery, Tata
The history of the Platán Bakery in Tata is extremely exciting: a bakery was already operating on Hajdú Street at the beginning of the 20th century, but this was only learnt by the owners when the oven, which had been walled up during the nationalization, was discovered during the renovation. Today, in the historic building, you can taste sublime sourdough delicacies, including baguettes, cinnamon and cocoa rolls, breads, pretzels, strudels, savoury and butter croissants, buns and sweet pastries. Another interesting fact is that the owners are committed to sustainability, for example, they make jam for the sweet pastries mostly from fruits grown in their own garden, and they use renewable energy sources in their production activities and heat their premises with energy reeds grown on their own land.
The Restaurant of Rudi & Fickó, Szeged
Take a stroll through the downtown of Szeged and discover the Restaurant of Rudi & Fickó, where they offer crumbly, sweet and savoury pastries. Named after two puppies, the restaurant started as an ice cream parlour, then it became a bakery, and later on, a breakfast restaurant with excellent coffee, then a restaurant and bar. And with this combination, there is no reason why you can’t stay from morning till night, which, with its excellent location, modern interior and all-day offer, makes it the perfect programme. However, just popping in for a delicious pastry and coffee is an option, and one that many people take advantage of. The baked goods are made locally and the selection is extremely varied. The almond croissant is not to be missed, and while you are at it, try their flat white, too! It is the perfect pairing – whether you start the morning in a rush or on time!
