Monor – nature study with gastronomic delights
Monor is located less than half an hour from Budapest, which is a real family hiking paradise! In this wonderful settlement, nature and recreation go hand in hand, and there are exciting programmes and experiences for almost all age groups! The special hiking trail of the nature trail on Strázsa Hill invites nature lovers to an exciting adventure. At the various stations, you can get to know the natural treasures of the area, and the children can playfully learn about the local flora and fauna.
After the nature trail, you can relax at the playground in Monor: the modern and safe playground is full of exciting play elements, where both young and old can tire themselves out. If you get hungry after all this, the Lusta Páva is receiving you with open arms: here, local flavours meet the family atmosphere, so that you can top off the day with a really pleasant lunch. Last but not least: winery festivals and wine programmes are organized several times a year in the Winery Village in Monor, one of the best known of which is the Cellar Tour in June and the Autumn Cellar Tour organized in September.
Pilisborosjenő – mystical cave tour and the "Castle of Eger"
Pilisborosjenő is only an hour's train ride from the capital, where unique attractions and close-to-nature adventures await all members of the family! Let's discover the replica of the Castle of Eger, which invites visitors to an exciting journey through time: walking between the walls of the castle, children can also experience the world of the Eclipse of the Crescent Moon, while admiring the beautiful panorama of the area. The next stop is the mystical Szódás cave, which with its impressive natural formation is a real treasure trove for little explorers. Wandering along the path leading to the cave, you can take part in an exciting adventure and enrich yourself with lasting experiences.
The excursion can be topped off by resting on the forest playground: the fairytale kingdom located among the shady trees offers safe and close-to-nature relaxation.
Solymár – stream, castle and valley, topped with local flavours
In Solymár, gastronomy, nature and history come together to form a special experience - and you do not even have to travel far, since Budapest and Solymár are only 20 minutes away by train. Start the day by exploring the Solymár Castle, where the walls offer a magnificent panorama of the surrounding countryside, and children can discover the secrets of medieval castles. The picturesque Paprikás stream is just a short walk from here, where you can relax on its banks and enjoy the beauty of the area while listening to its gurgling water. Attention, picnicking in good weather is highly recommended!
Continue the adventure in Jegenyevölgy, where the forest paths lead to a fairytale environment! It is an ideal place for hiking, as there is a lot to explore here for the whole family. After the tour, you will probably enjoy a fresh, crispy pastry in the Kelesztő Pékműhely, where excellent local flavours await tired adventurers - it can be a perfect end to exploring Solymár.
Szendehely – ant railway and fairytale playground in the middle of the forest
North of Vác, a little more than an hour's train ride from Budapest, there is a real children's paradise! Let's start the day at the Katalinpuszta Hiking Centre, which is a real gem near Szendehely. The centre is located at the entrance to the Gyada Nature Trail and is a perfect starting point for exploring the natural wonders of the area. Here, visitors can find information points, exhibitions, and comfortable rest areas that present the rich wildlife of the Börzsöny and Cserhát regions. The fairytale-like playground in the Vadlány grove offers entertainment for the little ones, where they can discover the wonders of nature with the help of thematic games and interactive elements. Starting from the Katalinpuszta Hiking Centre, you can reach places such as the ant railway, the forest playground and the suspension bridge.
It is worth starting with perambulating the famous Gyada nature trail: passing over the suspension bridge, on a winding route between streams and shady forests, you can discover the magical wildlife of the area. Each station holds new surprises. After the nature trail, try the special ant railway - the children's favourite is the miniature train, which takes them on a fun journey through the forest paths. From here, the forest playground is just a step away, where swings, climbing frames and plenty of adventures await them in the embrace of nature.
Veresegyház – French atmosphere and bear feeding
You do not have to go to Transylvania to see bears! Less than an hour's train ride from the capital, you will find the famous Bear Farm in Veresegyháza, where you can observe majestic wolves and bears up close, while even the smallest children can learn a lot of interesting facts about these wonderful animals. You can even offer the bears fruits - yes, you can!
After you have recharged yourself with the special energies of the animal world, visit the La Vie En Rose cafe and bakery in the heart of the town, where amazing sweets, freshly baked pastries and great coffee await you! The cozy, French-style atmosphere of the café is perfect for a little rest and refreshment.
