Hide away and arrive at the same time: Avalon Resort & SPA, Miskolc

The Avalon Resort & SPA in Miskolc is an excellent choice for the whole family if you want to break away from the urban routine during spring break and get away to relax. Located just an hour and a half from Budapest, in the vicinity of Bükk Mountains, the complex offers five-star, spacious family suites or exclusive log cabins. Both the indoor and outdoor areas of the Avalon Spa are remarkable, and thanks to the family-friendly services, everything you need for a carefree recharge is at your disposal.

However, the resort is not only an outstanding destination because of its special suites and exciting wellness area: it is also home to one of Hungary’s most modern electric go-kart tracks, the 580-meter-long Hell Kart Gokart. The technical track with timed races is a real adrenaline rush for older children and adventurous parents. The list of activities doesn’t end there: younger children can dive into the world of the Mayans at the 2,500-square-meter Maya Playground and the 400-square-meter indoor Jungle Playhouse, where the adventures are almost endless.

The icing on the cake is that the complex is also a “black belt” on the gastronomic front. At The Club Avalon, led by chef Ádám Barna, you can venture into the world of smoke, fire, and embers, while lovers of classic Italian cuisine will find what they are looking for at Avalon Ristorante. The strength of Avalon Resort & SPA lies in the fact that every generation can have fun at their own pace here, while still enjoying shared experiences. This is what a real family getaway is all about.

An eco-conscious adventure paradise for all generations in the heart of Zselic: Katica Tanya, Patca

In the middle of the Somogy “forest country”, at the end of the village of Patca, we find one of the country’s most exciting eco-conscious nature adventure realms: Katica Tanya. The 13-hectare area offers more than 100 attractions, from climbing walls to electric go-karts, a giant playhouse and slide, and a petting zoo. There is something for every generation here, whether you are a small child, a teenager, or a grandparent. It is also worth browsing through the permanent programs: at the farm, you can observe and learn activities that revive the natural and traditional way of life, such as animal care, bread baking, and even feeding calves and lambs or milking cows. In addition to all this, you can explore the Adventure Cave, the Knight’s Castle, and ride the Matyi train, while the little ones can ride the barrel train.

What makes the farm special is that it runs on 100% renewable energy, striving for a zero ecological footprint: the team at the adventure centre has already won numerous awards for its exemplary, environmentally friendly operation. Their goal is to ensure that visitors’ ecological footprint is smaller when they visit than if they had stayed at home.

If you are planning a multi-day trip, you can book accommodation in one of the comfortable family apartments in the village or in the communal accommodation operated by Katica Tanya. Even a rumbling stomach is no obstacle: you can recharge your batteries and fill up on home-style food in their self-service restaurants and one of the buffets. The farm is open all year round, and it’s worth coming back, because it’s almost impossible to see all the indoor and outdoor attractions in a single day!

Let’s go on a trip around the world in Szántód, at BalaLand FamilyPark

Are you dreaming of traveling around the world, but spring break isn’t quite 80 days long? No problem: just head to Szántód, where the magical world of Jules Verne’s novel Around the World in 80 Days comes to life! At BalaLand FamilyPark, you can hide in London’s Hyde Park, take a train ride around Europe, travel by airship, and even climb a pyramid. The approximately 10,000-square-meter adventure empire also features an amazing water section with adventure pools, a special slide empire, and hot tubs, and in the warmer months, you can also enjoy the outdoor water playground.

At BalaLand, there is only one thing that can stand between seemingly endless fun and children: a rumbling tummy. Fortunately, the team at Tico Restaurant & Terrace takes care of replenishing your energy with stone-baked pizzas, fresh salads, Italian pasta, and light snacks. And if you really want to get the most out of your trip, it’s worth booking a room at the neighbouring five-star, family-friendly MÖVENPICK BalaLand Resort Lake Balaton hotel. This way, your trip around the world can be not just a one-day expedition, but a leisurely mini-vacation – without lugging around suitcases.

Hello Hungary’s tip: whether your destination is the southern shore of Lake Balaton, Pécs or Lake Tisza, from April onwards, Ankylosaurus, Stegosaurus and Velociraptor will be ”populating” the forests of our country... But there’s no need to be afraid: these giant prehistoric creatures are kept under control, and although they don’t hold back on their roars, they are mostly harmless.

In the Gyula, Kerek, Pécs, Sirok, Szeged, Lake Tisza, and Zemplén Dinosaur Parks, you can walk among life-size, moving, and vocal dinosaurs while learning about the species that once lived in a playful way. The interactive elements not only captivate children, but also bring out the curious paleontologist in adults. While the T-rex growls among the trees, we wonder what Earth must have been like in prehistoric times. The parks also feature an “energy-consuming” Dino-Fitt zone, where children can try their hand at more than thirty types of outdoor games after the dinosaur show. And what’s the best part? That we spend the whole time outdoors in the fresh air, and the day flies by so quickly that we hardly notice it.

Pamper your soul with soft alpacas, gentle foxes, and playful bears: MancsRanch, Pécs

If you are looking for some soul-soothing experiences during spring break, head to MancsRanch, tucked away on the outskirts of Pécs! More than 100 rescued animals live peacefully in Rózsa Fejes’s unique 3,000-square-meter animal sanctuary, where they love each other like siblings.

The badger begs to be held, the porcupine gives kisses, the fox purrs, and the alpacas are like giant stuffed animals.

There are no crowds here; visitors must make an appointment in advance. The focus is on personal encounters. Rózsa’s goal is for us to get to know all the residents up close, by name, and to love them as much as possible. The atmosphere of the zoo is more like an intimate gathering, where young and old alike can learn empathy through play. When we arrive at MancsRanch, we should expect that only a one-hour visit will fit into the animals’ strict schedule. The most important thing for their caretakers is the residents’ peace of mind, and based on experience, this is the amount of time that is not too burdensome for the animals to receive guests.

Water adventures in every corner of the country: the baths of the Hungarian Bath Association

For water lovers – and their splashing family members – we wholeheartedly recommend the certified adventure and medicinal baths under the auspices of the Hungarian Bath Association. On the Association’s website, you can browse by facilities, region, and type, making it easy to find the water kingdom that best suits your spring break – whether it’s about a slide marathon or peaceful floating in a thermal pool.

The indoor pool area of Hungarospa Hajdúszoboszló is a real water slide paradise, while Aquaticum Debrecen also has an amazing range of attractions, including 12 water slides, a cave bath, an adventure pool, and a lazy river. It would be a challenge to list all the attractions of the Sárvár Health and Wellness Bath’s family adventure bath with its southern seaside atmosphere, just as the AquaPalace at the Gyula Castle Bath and the Children’s World at the Aquarius Adventure and Park Bath are also impressive.

The Hungarian Bath Association is an association of economic organizations and entrepreneurs operating baths. This highly respected association has been preserving and protecting the traditions of Hungarian spa culture for 34 years, actively participating in the design, development, construction, and maintenance of Hungarian spas. The organization has also been a member of the European Spas Association since 1998.
