Wine tasting on two wheels – bicycle tour in Csopak

Over the past decades, Lake Balaton has become one of the favourite cycling destinations for domestic tourists. It is not a coincidence, as the well-built (constantly expanding) road network has been supplemented with many natural and man-made attractions. A great advantage of the area is that it is also hiding a lot of exciting possibilities of programs for those who do not attempt to accomplish the whole Balaton circle, but a small section. Csopak and its surroundings, for example, are a particularly good choice if, in addition to cycling, we also want to give in to our passion for Balaton wines.

The hillsides of Balatonfüred-Csopak, which is one of the outstanding wine regions of Hungary with a history of several hundred years, can be known primarily for its Rieslings with characteristic fruit flavours. And what to visit on a bike tour? The area gives place to numerous renowned viticulture, and a lot of them, — though with minor detours,— are easily accessible by turning off the bike tour. It is highly recommended to visit the Figula Winery: on the beautifully renovated estate we are welcomed with a 6-sample wine tasting, and we even have the opportunity to look into the wine-making technology as part of a cellar tour. And if we want to be really comfortable, we can even stay on the estate: two beautifully established guest houses await people who drop in - it can even be an excellent departure point for star tours. 

If you are planning a multi-stop tour, the Petrányi Cellar and Wine Terrace should be chosen as the final stop, as they can serve not only excellent wines, but also a home-made meal for tired travellers, combined with a unique view and a domestic scene. They are waiting for their guests not only in summer, but at all times of the year, with a seasonal menu.

We don’t have to despair even if we don’t have a bike at home that we can throw up on the carrier of the car or on the train: around the largest lake of Hungary, many rentals offer bicycles to suit different needs: we can rent semi-professional road and mountain bike bikes, as well as tandem bikes or kids bicycles with all the necessary equipment associated with them. Moreover, for those who are less looking for a physical challenge or get tired more easily, electric bikes are also being offered in more and more places.
