Piliscsaba Lecsó Festival and Cooking Competition 2026

In September, the cauldrons come out in Piliscsaba, and it soon becomes clear that everyone has their own idea of what lecsó should be like. With or without sausage, spicy or mild, based on a family recipe or with a touch of experimentation – at the Piliscsaba Lecsó Festival and Cooking Competition, teams put their own versions to the test in front of the judges. Of course, whilst the cooking is going on, it’s not all about the competition: groups of friends and families spend the day together gathered round the cauldrons. The lecsó tastings are accompanied by music and family entertainment, therefore it’s well worth having a look around even if you’d rather stay on the other side of the plate. And as you stroll amongst the cooking stations, fragrant with the scent of peppers and tomatoes, you’ll soon discover just how many different ways there are to prepare this dish, which at first glance seems so simple.
