If it’s a goose, let it be a fat one!

At the Sóstó Museum Village, St. Martin’s Day hasn’t changed much over the past few decades – and that’s precisely what makes it so special. We can start the day at the gate with bread smeared with goose fat and the year’s new wine, whilst in the old farmyards, the crafts and autumnal tasks that were once a natural part of everyday village life are brought to life. The St Martin’s Day festivities are the open-air museum’s traditional end-of-season event, which has been reviving the customs of this special day for nearly thirty years. It’s worth arriving hungry: in previous years, goose porridge, stuffed goose neck, goose legs and oven-baked delicacies have been prepared, whilst inside the houses visitors could write with goose quills, do embroidery, make lanterns or even shell maize.
