Glamping - get natural, yet in luxury!

  • Bóday Csilla
Nowadays glamping is becoming an increasingly well-known phenomenon. When the founders of SVÉT (the Hungarian abbreviation of Stylish Rural Intellectuals) had the idea in 2013 that it would be fun to enjoy the meals and recreation of their regular event outdoors in luxurious tents, they had no idea that a tradition would be established and in the footsteps of this successful initiative and multiple initiatives would pop up all over the country, first of all in Noszvaj.

The pioneer of glamping in Hungary is the Nomad Hotel and Glamping in Noszvaj, which launched the glamping movement in 2013. The expression was born from the combination of glamorous and camping, and it indicates a camping experience with beautiful settings, comfortable furniture, cozy and stylish accessories and accommodation that greatly differs from conventional arrangements. Nature retreats are now entirely different than the old, uncomfortable forms of camping. We know that in the “ancient times” of camping, the only campers who undertook this form of “relaxation” were the ones who were determined enough and loved nature more than usual, and who were on good terms with bugs and wild boars. However, with the introduction of the comfort factor, camping has once again become a coveted form of relaxation around the world.

What does Nomad have to offer?

The hotel located next to Eger is expanding its number of special accommodations every year. This includes tents, container houses, cabins and bubble tents. These trendy accommodations have plenty of returning admirers, and Nomad Hotel & Glamping can turn curious beginners into regular guests as it has a wide range of sleeping accommodations and the spirit of the place is almost certain to bring guests back. If you feel like getting a taste of this subculture, you should attend Nomad’s big event, the Glamping Picnic, which takes place this year on 26 May. After advance registration, they are looking forward to accommodating guests who wish to sample local gastronomy treats in natural surroundings while discovering their yurts and other special forms of accommodation. You can cool down in the shade of the trees and have something delicious while enjoying some pleasant music. Don’t worry, you don’t have to expect big stage rigs or huge crowds packed in front of the backstage for autographs. Instead, you can listen to the marvelous chirping of birds. This is a place to replenish your stores both physically and mentally. In previous years, delicious snacks were provided by members of the ‘Stílusos Vidéki Éttermiség’ (a pun meaning Stylish Rural Restaurants) movement - including Rosinante Restaurant in Szigetmonostor, Palkonyha Palkonya, and Macok Bistro from Eger, with wines provided by Jani Bolyki and Nimród Kovács.

What to expect?

First of all, expect to break with conventions: don’t worry too much about dressing up and leave your unresolved tasks and problems behind. Be sure to bring a bikini and swimming trunks as a swimming pool awaits in the summer. You can bring a bike, roller-skates or skateboards, just don’t make too much noise as the birds don’t like it. Bring a blanket, straw hat, chequered shirt and anything else that might suit the occasion.

Extras in the area

The many attractions in and around the village include Csendülő, a café, bistro, theater and a quiet zone all in one. The Fairytale Forest on the lake meadow is a firm favourite of those who come with kids and roaming of the area is a good excuse for the parents to be little children again. The woodland challenge is an exciting activity for children and adults alike. In addition to sharing in the adventure, the tour offers a wonderful spiritual journey for the participants during which they can become attuned to themselves, overcome their fears and find out more about their own inherent abilities.
