Efficient work, smart relaxation: “bleisure” is gaining ground in Hungary, too

Szabó Sára

Just imagine that while you are doing your daily tasks on your laptop, breakfast is delivered to your door. The view during conference calls is wonderful, and between meetings you can relax in the sauna. Indeed, travel today does not necessarily mean choosing between work and leisure – just as business trips do not preclude spending time with family or relaxing alone after work. “Bleisure” – a trend born from the fusion of the words “business” and “leisure” – has become one of the most dynamically developing forms of travel in recent years, and is increasingly popular in Hungary, too.

Many people believe that pleasure should be combined with usefulness. A prime example of this concept is “bleisure”, which means that our work time is crowned with relaxation during our travels. The trend that has become widespread internationally has also appeared in Hungary in recent years, especially during the pandemic. According to Dóra Rajki, Multi-Hotel Sales Director responsible for sales at several Accent Hotels, many people were already working from hotel rooms when they couldn’t do so at home – and they realized that the comfort, tranquillity, and services offered by a hotel often provide more than an “open office”.

But what does “bleisure” mean in practice?

It’s simple: guests work while feeling good. The comfort of the hotel, full board, wellness services, or even the presence of family can all contribute to productivity and rejuvenation.

“We encounter two types of guests in connection with “bleisure”. On the one hand, there are those who come to our hotels specifically for work. The calm environment allows them to conduct business without distractions, and thanks to the comprehensive service, they don’t even have to interrupt their “workflow”. At the end of the working day, they are able to switch off effectively so that they can start the next day with renewed energy. The other type of guest is conference attendees who extend their hotel stay after their working days are over so that they can enjoy the services together with their families”, says Dóra Rajki.

Internationally renowned Accent Hotels offer a wide range of services that make it possible to combine work and leisure, either alone or with the family. Kenese Bay Garden Resort & Conference in Balatonkenese is a perfect example of this: during school breaks, more and more guests are choosing this solution, where while one parent works – either from their room, the communal area, or one of the private rooms available in the hotels – the other parent splashes around in the pools with the children, enjoying the entertainment programs or sports facilities.

“Kenese Bay Garden Resort has a bowling alley, a soccer field, water bikes, e-bikes for rent, and the increasingly popular Touchgametable, which offers entertainment for all ages,"

-adds Dóra Rajki.

This kind of flexibility is particularly attractive to entrepreneurs who cannot or do not want to take complete leave.

“Bleisure deluxe” – relaxation after a conference

As the Multi-Hotel Sales Director of Accent Hotels points out, another typical form of “bleisure” is when guests arrive for business purposes, such as a conference, and then extend their stay so that their families can join them. The Art Hotel Szeged, the Best Western Plus Lakeside Hotel in Székesfehérvár, or the Aranyhomok Business-City-Wellness Hotel in Kecskemét are ideal locations for these dual-purpose trips. The advantage of city hotels is that they are easily accessible, well equipped, and offer opportunities for exploring the city and enjoying cultural experiences – right after closing your laptop.

According to Dóra Rajki, reliable and consistent quality, as well as comfortable and well-equipped rooms, also play a key role. More spacious suites, executive rooms – such as those on the renovated floor of the Art Hotel Szeged – and family-friendly solutions all serve to make guests feel truly at home, whether they are here to work or relax.

In the silence of nature – during and after work

Not everyone travels with their family: many choose Accent Hotels precisely for the escape, inspiration or tranquillity they offer. Examples include the Cardoner Hotel in Dobogókő, the Narád Hotel in the Mátra Mountains, and the Gotthard Therme Hotel & Conference at the gateway to the Őrség region. “At the Cardoner Hotel, the proximity to nature and the wellness services tailored to tranquillity – such as the float spa, the outdoor sauna surrounded by ancient trees, or a massage accompanied by birdsong – rejuvenate not only the body but also the soul. These places are perfect if you want to immerse yourself in a project or simply escape from everyday life”, adds Dóra Rajki.

Culinary experiences alongside work

Last but not least, gastronomic experiences are also extremely important in “bleisure”, as one of the biggest advantages of this type of travel is that guests are provided with everything they need in comfort: a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner – without compromising on the experience. Dóra Rajki points out that the Art Hotel in Szeged, for example, has a restaurant that uses local ingredients and seasonal produce, which has recently been expanded to include a fitness corner. The Kenese Bay Garden restaurant is praised by many returning business guests, while the Aranyhomok Hotel excels in serving local flavours in a modern way.

"Several of their units already offer online room service ordering via QR code, so you don't even have to get up from your laptop to enjoy a delicious dinner,"

-concludes the expert.
