One of the most beautiful Hungarian castles of the Historicist era, it is like a Tudor-style castle in Scotland: turreted, decorated with “lace-work”, polychurched and surrounded by a vast 20-hectare English park, where you can take leisurely walks among the flora or picnic freely. The castle commemorates conjugal love: Ferenc Nádasdy designed his family home with Ilona Zichy, but the young wife died prematurely – after which the grieving count lived in the castle with such fidelity that his beloved Ilona could walk in at any moment. The beautifully restored building is worth a guided tour.
