The famous Kinizsi Castle, built in the Middle Ages, is hidden in the hills of the Balaton highlands, named after the Turkish-battling Pál Kinizsi, the legendary warlord of King Matthias. The characteristic rectangular residential tower building houses the prison, the Knights’ Hall, the guard’s room and the room of the former mistress of the castle. The ruins of the Pauline monastery of St. Michael, not far from the castle, are also worth a visit.
