Antal Grassalkovich I had the castle built in Gödöllő, in the valley of the Rákos Stream, which later became widely known as the royal residence of Franz Joseph I and Sissi. In terms of built area, the building is the largest Baroque palace in Hungary, with a 26-hectare garden. The Baroque theatre of the castle is also a rarity in Europe. This can be visited as part of a visit to the museum, as well as the Királydomb Pavilion, the riding stables, the Rudolf and Gizella wings of the castle and the reconstruction of Governor Miklós Horthy’s bunker. The institution offers programmes all year round, with a wide repertoire of cultural festivals, concerts and events for children.
