Going to the baths is a pleasant activity at any time of the year. Even in summer, especially if you can time your thermal water bathing to be in the evening. This is when the air cools down just enough to give you a tingly, uplifting feeling when you go into the thermal waters. In the Cave Spa in Demjén, near Egerszalok, you can take a nighttime dip every Friday and Saturday. If you're in the area, do include this special activity, your body and soul will thank you for it!

Enjoy the experience of the pool-labyrinth

There is a kind of discreet thermal Camino to walk around the spa, it also means that there is plenty of space for more pools. In the indoor area, you can soak your body in two thermal water pools equipped with various adventure elements. For those who arrive with children, we have good news, as there is a pool for kids to splash in, at a suitable temperature.

Of course, on pleasant summer evenings, it's much cosier to use the outdoor pools, and it's no coincidence that five of them are open. Each one has a different temperature, so you can alternate between "Oh, it's lovely and warm!" and "Wow, it feels cold at first!" and "Gee, that's hot... oh maybe it’s not so hot after all!". The most exciting part of the outdoor area - and just a bit creepy, thanks to its semi-covered nature - is the cave bath, where people sit side by side in the dim light of the stone wall. When we first visit Demjén, we keep an eye out for people with a childish smile on their lips: they are almost certainly sitting at the massage points that pop up at unexpected intervals. When they are ready to leave, you can take their place! If, for some reason, your body craves yet more heat, you can also take a dip in the steam room or Finnish sauna, which the bravest can top off with a plunge pool ice adventure. If you feel that the circulation in your feet deserves a little pampering, don't miss the Kneipp pool, where you can walk in ankle-deep water on flat stones.

Music and sauna seance

On Friday and Saturday, the adventure baths are enhanced by four differently-themed sauna baths. And if you're still craving some rhythm in the hot water, you can relax from 9 pm, when the pool party starts, with music by a DJ.

To soak or not to soak, that is the question?

Hamlet will surely forgive us for stealing part of his monologue, but it is important to point out who should and should not sit in hot water. The pools in Demjén have thermal water that rises from a depth of 690 metres, which relieves musculoskeletal complaints, fights ageing, rejuvenates the skin, improves circulation, and relaxes muscles. It is important to emphasize, however, that in some cases bathing is strongly contraindicated; it is worth consulting your GP before plunging into the thermal waters.

The empty stomach dilemma

While British researchers certainly don't yet have a study on how many out of ten people get hungry after a swim, we guess that after hours of soaking, most will need of some tasty nibbles. A snack bar on the spa serves some salty snacks, ice cream and alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments. And if we come home late at night and snack on some biscuits or chocolate, we don't have to tell anyone...

Slippery precautions or be careful in slippers!

The spa staff are constantly making sure that there are no stray water spots on the floor, but with so many pools, this is no easy task. So, if you don't want to sledge across the wet pavement with the speed of a bowling ball, it's worth taking extra care when walking from the changing rooms to the pools.

Tipp: Amennyiben több napra érkeznénk, a Demjéni Termáltó Fürdő mellett található Egri Korona Borház vendégházai és wellness hotele ideális szálláslehetőséget biztosít.

Tip: if you happen to spend more days here, the apartments and the wellness hotel of the Egri Korona Winery right next to the Demjén Thermal Spa could be an ideal accomodation.
