Hype&Hyper

Autumn is perhaps the favourite time of year for cycling enthusiasts, when you can enjoy the beauty of the countryside and the pleasant rides without the sweltering heat and with less of a heatwave. Our latest selection of great places to visit includes a range of cafés, bakeries and rest stops that welcome visitors on their bikes. If necessary, they’ll even fix a flat tire while you consume your refreshment. Here are some of our bike-friendly places!

Buborék (‘Bubble’), Csopak

The Buborék in Csopak, a bakery, café, accommodation, bicycle shop, service and rental shop, opened in summer 2021.  Breakfasters can choose from homemade sourdough breads, baguettes, extra butter pastries, aesthetic sandwich and (chia) pudding creations, furthermore, egg dishes, and – apart from coffee – a wide range of refreshments, including also kombucha, freshly pressed juices and even champagne.

The building was renovated before opening, and the interior design was created by interior designers Eszter Bertóty and Edit Móder, and the final result is a sophisticated space with a clean, uncluttered feel. The building is dominated by natural materials, stainless steel, white tiled and raw concrete surfaces, neutral tones and modern furniture. The minimalist atmosphere is broken up by moving pieces of space and bicycles installed as artworks. The standard of the traditional and electric bikes on offer is as high as the gastronomic line. As well as two-wheeled accessories and own-brand cycling clothing, there is also a brand-independent service station in the building and six comfortable rooms upstairs for those who want to explore the area. A short bike ride from Csopak takes you to the ruins of the Zádor Castle, the Csákány Hill Lookout, or even the sights of Veszprém or Tihany.

Helovelo Bike & Café, Pápa

The Bakony Mountains have many exciting four-season cycling routes, just think of Zirc, Bakonybél, Nagyvázsony, but the highest point of the mountain range, Kőris Hill, is also accessible on two wheels. If you are looking for a cyclist-friendly place to eat in the area, head to Pápa, where the Helovelo Bike & Café team awaits the lovers of this sport. The owner of the place, András Valkó, used to be a professional cyclist himself, his passion was bicycles and his sweetheart’s was coffee, so Helovelo was born by combining the two. In addition to hot and cold drinks and snacks such as sandwiches, the café also sells bicycles, cycling equipment and clothing, and their bike service offers short delivery times and many years of experience in bike fitting.

Kerékbár (‘Wheel Bar’), Zebegény

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only one page from it."

This is the motto of this place, opened in 2012 in the heart of the Danube bend, whose primary goal is to offer quality hospitality and accommodation for those arriving by bike or canoe. The city is crossed by the Eurovelo 6 cycle route, which links a total of ten countries along 3,653 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea, following the Rhine, Loire and Danube rivers. The European Cycle Route Network aims to help tourists discover Europe from the comfort of their bikes, rather than from the window of a car or bus, watching the scenery go by.

The Kerékbár offers a range of refreshments, showers and camping facilities, as well as bike and kayak hire, and there are regular bike & boat programmes from the shore, where adventurous visitors can combine their love of water and cycling.

Zalakaros Spa, Zalakaros

A special feature of our offer is the thermal and spa baths of Zalakaros, known as the first bicycle-friendly spa in the country. The Kis-Balaton (‘Little Lake Balaton’) cycling tours offer a unique natural environment and a fantastic opportunity for active, quality time, while the spa also does its part in promoting a healthy lifestyle: guests arriving by bike are offered a discounted ticket, massage and practical bike storage facilities. The town is also the venue of the annual Tour de Zalakaros road cycling race, where more than a thousand cyclists compete every year. The scenery of the Zala forests and the healing thermal waters are the perfect combination for travellers seeking nature, exercise and active relaxation.
