What is the article about?
- What autumn hikes are worth trying?
- What special sights can we discover along the way?
1. The rocky world of the Wild West
Pilisborosjenő is located just 20 minutes from Budapest, where the whole family can admire the rock formations of Teve-szikla or the castle ruins built as the set for the film Egri csillagok (Eclipse of the Crescent Moon) at a comfortable pace. The 5-kilometer hike can be completed in an hour and a half.
2. Cycling along the Által-ér Stream to Tata
During an easy 21.5-kilometer ride, you can explore one of the most popular parts of the country, as the section between Tatabánya and Tata on this route won the title of Cycling Route of the Year in 2020. While cycling, we can immerse ourselves in the fabulous scenery and discover the wildlife of the area.
3. A narrow-gauge train ride in the Danube Bend
The adventure is already off to a good start, as we can hop on the famous Királyrét Forest Railway and travel all the way to the Kismaros railway station. From there, following the green signs, we reach the Great Rock, where a magnificent view awaits us.
During our journey, we cross the Malom stream several times as we walk through tussocky meadows. Finally, the easiest way to return to the starting point from Zebegény is by train. The 16-kilometer hike is easy for the whole family to complete.
4. A panoramic discovery tour on Kő Hill
This easy 5-kilometer route is made exciting by caves and ravines. On the outskirts of Szentendre, on the road leading to the Lajos Spring, near the Anna Valley, there is a trail marked with green cave signs. Following this trail, we reach the János Czibulka Shelter and the top of Kő Hill via the Vasas Gorge and the Kő Hill nature trail, where we can enjoy a breathtaking panorama.
5. The cave of the ancient people of Pilis
The hike, which is only 7 kilometers long, starts at the ruins of the Pauline monastery in Klastrompuszta, from where a short climb takes you to the entrance of the cave. The Leány (“Maiden”) Cave and the Legény (“Bachelor”) Cave are only 50 meters apart. From here, we head for the Basina Valley, where we can rest at the Eszperantó spring. On the outskirts of Piliscsév, it is worth visiting the wine press houses lined up next to each other, and then returning to our starting point.
6. In Mars-like landscapes
Once you have collected enough colorful autumn leaves, find a landscape that offers an unusual view! In Gánt, following the path starting from the entrance of the Jenő Balás Bauxite Mining Museum, we find ourselves in a mining yard that resembles a Martian landscape. In the area of the former open-pit bauxite mine, we can walk through the reddish landscape on easy terrain for two hours.
