Charming farms where a splendid village guest table awaits!
Szabó Sára
A Séf és a Kertész (The Chef and the Gardener), Pócsmegyer
The magical mini estate of gardener Patrícia Török and chef Gábor Horváth is a real gem in Pócsmegyer. They not only offer snacks, but also learning: in addition to tasting, you can learn a lot about chemical-free gardening. As long as the weather allows, they invite guests to their Szentendre Island kingdom on weekends for interactive garden visits throughout the year, where you can learn how a small vegetable patch can become an organic kingdom. The Chef and the Gardener will also test you with playful tasks: how many edible flowers, herbs or vegetables can you identify based solely on sight or smell? The highlight of the 2.5-hour weekend programme, announced in advance, is the three-course tasting menu, which is of course made from fresh produce from the garden.

Frankó Farm and Halušky House, Békéscsaba
How can you live a self-sustaining farm life just 3 kilometres from the big town? You can find the answer at the zero-kilometre catering service, Frankó Tanya és Haluskaház, where after prior registration you can not only wander the 5-hectare, traditional, Slovak folk-style farm, but also take part in a village guest table. On the Békéscsaba estate, which is open all year round, amazing dishes are created from the meat of backyard animals and vegetables grown in the own garden, such as bryndza, Csaba sausage, pigeon soup, roast goose and pig, plum jam and poppy seed pierogi, and the main character halušky! The farm is not only about delicious snacks, but also about the experience: here you can experience the magic of living close to nature, in the village, up close. What is more, smaller groups can even register for a pig slaughter!

Levendula Porta (Lavender Court), Kékkút
The lavender farm in Kékkút is not only worth visiting in summer: with prior reservation, you can request a village guest table at the family farm of Eníd and Tibor Keszthelyi, which can also be supplemented with a tour of the estate. The village feast, available for groups of at least 10 people, includes the famous Urda cheese-cloth, the raclette sandwich, sublime homemade cheeses, and the mouth-watering beef salami. The wishing table also includes a variety of homemade yogurts, cheese creams, syrups, and special cheeses – such as caciotta, Tuscan homemade cheese – and blue mould cheeses. True to its name, many lavender delicacies are also available at the court, such as lavender syrup, lavender water, or lavender latte. After the feast, you can take a walk around the estate if you wish: you can get to know the free-range animals in the pasture and see the lavender – not only when it is in bloom.

Őrségi Ízek Portája (Court of the Tastes of Őrség), Szalafő
In Őrség, visitors can enjoy incredibly lovely places where they can taste local specialities at a guest table. The snack is like sitting at grandma's table for a Sunday family lunch, because while you eat, the table companions and the hostess also tell anecdotes. Pay close attention at this time, because you can easily catch a few closely guarded kitchen secrets! After registering in advance, you can get an insight into the gastronomy of Őrség at the Court of the Tastes of Őrség. Here, Ildikó Horváthné Tamaskó cooks, almost all year round, as long as the weather permits. The delicious, homemade dishes on the menu almost always include swede strudel, potato dumplings, mushroom soup, stew and cabbage with pumpkin seed oil. And if you are not driving, you should definitely try the homemade pálinka!

Terrapolis – garden and table, Tarcal
The biodiversity in the small but rich garden of Terrapolis in Tarcal is breathtaking. Anyone who comes in cannot escape direct physical contact with the plants, and this is just the beginning of getting to know them. Here, not only your bodies but also your souls can be satisfied. The host always puts the best possible food on the table from his own permaculture garden, from simple and great dishes from world cuisines, such as chickpea crisps, Jerusalem artichoke-chicory salad, Caucasian walnut vegetable cream, homemade tofu and tempeh, sourdough bread, fermented vegetables. One of the dishes, winter and summer, is always a leaf and flower tasting. But you can be enriched not only with a taste experience, but also with stories here – because behind every dish there is the rhythm of the seasons and the garden. Thus, Terrapolis is not only a guest table, but also a workshop for sustainable eating and the principle of doing no harm.

Truffle & Beef Estate, Sümegcsehi
Angus beef, barbecue and truffle fans, attention! It is no exaggeration: at the guest table of the Truffle & Beef Estate in Sümegcsehi, every bite is a fragrant, rural magic. On the family-friendly farm, you can taste freshly picked truffles, which the estate's own dog, Pipa, sniff out from the ground. The dishes served on the table are based on the meat of the farm's Aberdeen Angus cattle, and the beef-truffle pairing is made really special by natural wines. Barbecue is also often prepared on the estate. The guest table is not a quick programme: you can chat, taste, and even go on a dog hunt with Pipa and their owner as part of the programme.
