    But why celebrate pumpkins?

Of course, apart from the fact that it looks insanely good whether you carve it or not. Pumpkin is a true wonder vegetable. Its fortune has been on the rise in recent years - it even got its own festival! - Which is no coincidence, as it's physiologically worth its weight in gold. There are so many vitamins - including calcium, manganese, copper, iron, phosphorus, vitamin C, folic acid and B vitamins - in its orange flesh, out of which you can even make brownies! The trio of pumpkin, pumpkin seeds and pumpkin seed oil is also good for the cardiovascular system and digestion, and their regular consumption is said to help reduce gout symptoms.

Three days of autumn breeze at the pumpkin festival

The majority of visitors arrive by car in Őrség. This is important just because in the towns participating in the festival, hunting for parking spots is almost as much of a challenge as putting on an intelligent face in the morning before your first coffee. If you can, leave your car at your accommodation and approach Őriszentpéter, home to most of the events, on foot, by bike or even by local bus. One thing's for sure: a day at the pumpkin festival is guaranteed to be full of experiences.

Prance - Purchase - Partake in Pumpkin-eating and be Proud in Paradise

These are pretty much the activities you can rotate through, as you just like. In Őriszentpéter, a relatively large area hosts the festival. If you're coming with family, it's worth agreeing on a meeting point so that it doesn't cause a mental apocalypse if you accidentally lose each other in the hustle and bustle. Because then you'll only be hearing each other shouting "But I'm here!" over the phone. "Here, at the pie stand! Not that one, the other one!"

The festival's main routes are dotted with plenty of vendors. What they offer are almost exclusively handcrafted products, including carved toys, natural cosmetics, souvenirs and often a variety of clothing. And, of course, all kinds of pumpkin products. If you only buy one thing, it should be pumpkin seed oil, perfect to season a variety of meals..

The pumpkin festival is a genuine culinary paradise for food lovers, so we advise you to come with an empty stomach to make room for all the delicacies. You can satisfy your thirst with lemonades and soft drinks, but visitors above the age of 18 can also dive into the world of craft beers and other beverages. And what to eat? Anything you can think of: grilled meat, different types of traditional sausages, roast potatoes, salads, pickles, and, of course, pumpkin goodies. The festival’s programmes include concerts and a variety of cultural programmes, with something for both the young and the old.

A day out is never enough

To compensate any possible overeating during the festival, take a walk in the area: Lake Vadása and its surroundings, for example, are a good plan and will not let you down!
