Spájz, Erhardt és Kultúrpresszó: 3 innovative gastronomic experiences in Sopron

A few places have also opened in Sopron, where young owners with a firm commitment to quality have targeted a more specialized segment of gastronomy.

SPÁJZ Nyers Vegán Bisztró

The business was invented by Heni Strassner when she started creating healthy sweets because of her gluten and dairy intolerance. Eventually, more and more people asked him to make vegan raw food, so she could let her imagination run wild. It has now grown into a bistro with a lunch menu and takeaway. Check the Facebook page for opening hours, and if you can't arrive at it before closing time, Heni can make your dream delicacies to order.

Erhardt Étterem és Panzió

Zoltán Erhardt is a sailing enthusiast and a true chef with a heart and soul, who has turned a wonderful Ponzichter wine bar into a gourmet restaurant and pension. There are many places near Lake Fertő where the love of sailing is combined with the delicious local wines and food specialties. The ponzichters, also called "Bohnenzüchter", are bean growers. That's what the Swabian vintners of Sopron used to be called, because they also grew beans under the vines for economic reasons. This is the basis for many dishes from Sopron and Burgenland, such as babsterc, (bean made with flour, fat or oil, and salt) bean scone. Zoltán has also set up a bakery next to the restaurant - where irresistible delicacies such as the Hungarian favourite, Erzsébet bread are made- crispy crust with wild sourdough.

Kultúrpresszó

The shop is the first place in Sopron where you can drink special coffee, i.e. coffee from special coffee-growing areas, which is roasted lightly and with a new-wave method in the machine. The roast is less intense, so the coffee has a "greener", fresher, fruitier aroma rather than a more bitter taste. If you ask for milk, you get artisanal milk, in which it's almost a crime to put sugar. What I love about the shop is that you can get “-free", healthy (or healthier) desserts. The most amazing is the pavlova - but beware, the offer is so fresh that it's not the same every day. You can eat cold, crispy salted crescent roll with pates and vegetables And the decor and music are urban, just like Fritz Kola or Gin Tonic. And if you're in the mood, you can refresh yourself with an Espresso Tonic after the day's activities.

Bonus: El Gusto

One El Gusto store is located in the Castle District, the other in Sopron Plaza. In both places, the design is clean, the tables are cosy inside and out, and there's always a dish or two that never gets old. For a while, the crowd favourite was the gröstl with blood sausage, a reimagining of an Austrian Alpine dish (potatoes, onions and "leftover meat" roasting together) with blood sausage. However, now, the favourite is the salmon tartare, or the crispy, wiener schnitzel. According to the bistro atmosphere, you can really eat a full, but not huge, portion of deliciousness quickly, leaving room for dessert and coffee, which are also amazing.
