Pig slaughter as a living tradition
At the end of November, the fire in the wood-burning stove flares up again at the Göcsej Village Museum, the cauldrons are bubbling, and the scent of freshly cooked pig-slaughter dishes fills the open-air museum. The Göcseji Pig Festival evokes the world of old-fashioned village pig slaughtering: a time when an entire community worked together and then sat down to eat together. On this day, the country’s first open-air ethnographic museum functions not only as an exhibition but as a living village.
