Pig-slaughtering in the morning, off to the spa in the afternoon!

One of the most important parts of traditional village pig-slaughtering festivals has always been the communal work and the feast that followed. At the Tisza Balneum Hotel in Tiszafüred, this tradition will be revived on the last weekend of January, complemented by a spot of spa relaxation. The Saturday programme begins at six o’clock in the morning with a Gypsy music wake-up call and a shot of pálinka, after which guests can watch the pig being butchered – and even join in with the work themselves. Meanwhile, fried blood with onions and eggs with marrow will be served so that no one goes hungry until the midday feast. One of the day’s most entertaining events is the sausage-stuffing competition, where participants can test their skills before tucking into the traditional pig-slaughtering lunch. The serving of the freshly prepared dishes is accompanied by live music, whilst the afternoon is all about relaxation: the hotel’s thermal pools, saunas and hot tub are all available for complete relaxation.
