In our article today, we find out what pálinka, gin and beer taste like when they come from Tokaj...

Seven Hills Distillery

In Bodrogkisfalud, in Petőfi utca (Petőfi Street), excitement is growing. If you think that in Hegyalja, in addition to wine, the list of alcoholic beverages ends with pálinka or even beer, you would be wrong. Now a popular drink in Western countries, gin and even the first whisky are being made in the wine region thanks to a dedicated young team. Local ingredients, local barrels, local spring water provide the ingredients. Brewery tours are available by appointment (minimum of 8 people, including one gin and one gin tonic). Nothing is better proof that their concept is right than the fact that Seven Hills is now internationally and domestically renowned.

BAZ Beer

Pilsen, red, APA and IPA: uncommon product designations in a historic wine region, but if you wish to drink something besides wine, you can now taste local beer in Tokaj, if you sit down at the right restaurant. They have an enthusiastic young team, whose aim is to create small-scale Tokaj beer in various categories, using crystal clear local water, in line with today's needs.

Bestillo

Today, Bestillo is one of Hungary's most renowned pálinka distilleries, but it not famous only for that. Next to the picturesque slopes of Zemplén, a separate visitor centre awaits travellers looking for some fine spirits, but also teams from larger companies (with accommodation possibilities). The museum exhibition presents the traditions. The Gönc apricots, which are a protected geographical indication, naturally receive special attention at the distillery. Modern technology and the cultured pálinka consumption are both important values for them. The master pálinka makers explain even their biggest secrets after presenting plenty pálinkas made from special fruit. Do not miss their forest cherry pálinka.

“Szóráth Pálinkafőzde” (Szóráth Distillery)

We also have tips for those who prefer a more traditional, low-calorie option when it comes to pálinka. The family has 30 years of experience in distilling. Their works are also linked to two settlements in Hegyalja: Abaújszántó, close to the home of the Gönc apricot, and Tállya, with its outstanding viticultural history. Local and regional fruit is the base for their distillates. As a result of improvements after 2009, distillation now takes place in a very modern environment. They also gladly organise events and accommodation if required.
