Off-road guide, if you want to explore the area off-road!
Szabó Sára
There are several designated, licensed tracks and routes for off-road bikers in Hungary. These enduro and cross tracks offer varied terrain conditions, while ensuring the safety of motorcycling and supporting the preservation of nature. If you are planning a motorcycle tour, it is worth finding out about the rules of the given area in advance. Some forest and agricultural roads can also be used for motorcycle traffic if the competent authorities allow it – but motorcycling is expressly prohibited in nature conservation areas! It is worth looking for locations where motorcycle tourism is supported and you can ride on designated routes!

What motorcycle should we choose?
The right motorcycle should be chosen based on the terrain, your riding experience, and your personal needs. If you plan to ride mainly on paved or gentler dirt roads, a lighter enduro bike may be the best choice. They are comfortable and versatile even over long distances. However, if you want to ride on rocky trails or in deep sand, an enduro or motocross bike with more suspension travel may be the ideal choice.
“It is important to take into account your own experience and physical abilities. A motorcycle that is too heavy, too tall or too powerful can not only be uncomfortable, but can also reduce the driving experience,”
– says Ildikó Schreiber, an expert at Euroleasing Zrt.
Enduro bikes are designed specifically for longer rides and varied terrain. The 250-300 cm3 versions are the most popular because they are light, easy to handle and can cope with a wide range of environments. As a beginner, it is worth starting with a lower-powered model that is easier to control. Cross bikes are primarily developed for racing tracks, so their suspension and weight distribution are optimized for extreme terrain conditions. If you want to ride on technical, challenging tracks, a cross bike may be the right choice – however, these bikes are less comfortable for longer trips.

"Quiet and environmentally friendly electric motors are also becoming increasingly popular. A full day of off-roading can be done on a single charge, and in the case of many models, the battery can be easily replaced, so you do not have to worry about long charging times," highlights Ildikó Schreiber.
Honda? KTM? Triumph? GasGas?
When choosing a motorcycle, it is worth considering reliability, parts supply and personal driving style. In Hungary, there is an extremely wide selection of motorcycle brands, so everyone can find a model that suits their taste and needs. Let's take a closer look at the most popular and sought-after brands with the help of Ildikó Schreiber! Among the classic Japanese brands, Honda is known for its reliability and versatility. Its range includes scooters, naked bikes, sports bikes, touring bikes and enduros. The other three big Japanese brands are Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. All three have a wide range of models, from sports bikes to cruiser bikes and scooters. The KTM group stands out among European manufacturers. KTM motorcycles play a leading role in the field of off-road motorcycling, but their range also includes street bikes, including a real "beauty", the MV Agusta.
Of course, we cannot leave BMW and Ducati out of the list. BMW motorcycles also represent the premium category, known for their excellent quality and innovative technology. Their range includes touring motorcycles, sports motorcycles, naked bikes and adventure motorcycles. Ducati motorcycles are known for their sporty appearance and high performance. Sports motorcycles and naked bikes are especially popular. Last but not least: the iconic American brand, synonymous with Harley Davidson and cruiser motorcycles; Triumph! Thanks to the Euroleasing's leasing structures, motorcycle leasing is also available with flexible financing options, with subsidized structures for certain brands.

“Leasing is an excellent alternative for those who want a modern and reliable motorcycle, but do not want to pay a large sum at once. It also gives you the opportunity to more easily switch to newer models over time with conscious financial planning,”
– adds Ildikó Schreiber.

Excellent off-road motorcycle locations in Hungary
Hungary offers many excellent off-road motorcycle locations. The hilly landscapes of Vértes and Bakony provide great opportunities for varied tours, while the sandy regions of the Great Plain offer opportunities for testing yourself on loose ground. The Mátra and the Bükk offer more technical, mountainous terrain for motorcyclists: for example, one of the oldest motor-sport centres in our country is the Piliscsév Motocross Track, where many domestic and international competitions are organized.

For the best experience, it is worth taking part in organized tours, where experienced guides will help you navigate the terrain and permits are also provided. The increasingly popular motorcycle tour organizers offer tours of different difficulty levels, so beginners and advanced riders alike can find routes that suit them. In short: off-road motorcycling can offer a fantastic experience if you choose the right location, motorcycle, and equipment!
