You are visiting a hilltop fortress built almost 700 years ago. It is perhaps the strongest castle in Hungarian history: the Turks never managed to capture it by siege. If you visit in the summer, you can watch the castle re-enactments, where battles are fought in medieval costume, music is played and jousting tournaments are held. Don’t miss the carriage and weapons museums either; beyond the rose gardens, you’ll find children’s play areas in the castle courtyard.
