Ajkai Bányászati Múzeum

Hungary’s first open-air technical heritage museum, located in Ajka. The exhibition, which showcases the technical and historical artefacts of the local coal mining industry, allows visitors to learn about the history of the sector and the work of the miners, and even offers a glimpse into the hardships of miners’ lives. For example, you can see a twin-cylinder steam engine and other original mining machinery, whilst the museum also houses a fossil and rock collection. A geological activity area has been set up for the youngest visitors, where they can learn through digital educational games. Guided tours are available for a fee.
