Pápa enjoyed its heyday as the centre of the Esterházy family estate in the 1700’s. The late Baroque Esterházy Castle in the town centre was built at this time. Today it serves as a museum, where you can get a glimpse of everyday life in the Baroque aristocracy, see a marionette theatre, learn about the history of puppetry and even learn the language of “fans. There are various workshops where you can make handicrafts (such as bon-bons), take photos in period costumes and even play Lego with the little ones. Behind the castle is the estate’s 100-hectare English park, commonly known as the Castle Garden, which is a popular recreation area in Pápa with its playground and charming walking paths.
