Siroki vár

Hungary’s most romantic fortress can be found along the Tarna, at the top of the Sirok Castle Hill. What is interesting about it is that it was not just built on top of a boulder, but actually inside it: huge tunnels, staircases and halls have been carved into the heart of the riolite tuff mountain – these are also the dungeons that adventurous visitors can explore. Wandering around the castle walls, you can see the former stables, the granary and the drinking fountain. From the heights of the upper castle, you can enjoy the view of the forests of the Bükk and the Mátra Mountains.
