‘Rózsakert’ (Rosegarden) Open-Air Stage
Established in 1955, the building complex was ready for a complete renovation in 2018 and has been waiting for the culture-lover guests every summer since its reopening. The heritage-listed building complex stands on the beautifully restored 120-year-old Benczúr Square. Shady trees, a magnificent rose garden, a fountain - everything you need for romantic entertainment in a pleasant environment. The Móricz Zsigmond Theatre, located in the neighbouring Bessenyei Square, is responsible for the high-quality performances. The cultural facility's star-roofed auditorium can hold up to 1,000 people, but it's always worth booking early to have a seat. In recent years, the public has seen hit plays such as ‘Meseautó (Dream Car) and ‘Pál utcai fiúk’ (The Boys from Paul Street) at the Rózsakert Open-Air Stage. And on Wednesday evenings, the Rózsakert Open-Air Cinema in the same location offers popular and well-loved films.
Selfie Museum and Speciality Café
The first selfie was taken by an American photographer, Robert Cornelius, in Philadelphia. With the development of digital technology, taking photos has become cheaper and easier, and most people now use their smartphones to take photos. Selfie-taking spread with the launch of dual-camera phones, and it didn't take long for it to become an integral part of our everyday lives. And nowadays, the right background is essential for the perfect selfie. Recognising this need, Nyíregyháza's newest tourist attraction, the Selfie Museum, opened in the summer of 2021, primarily targeting the younger generation. The museum is housed in a recently renovated heritage-listed building, the Bocskai-Kálmán Service House. In total, 26 different themed scenes are included, where the appropriately themed boxes are the key to success Flamingos, doughnuts, pink giraffes, an office covered in colourful paper notes, a rose petal curtain or a money shower - everything you need for a cool Instagram post. And if you're tired of selfies, you can relax in the café with a delicious coffee and a fresh cake.
Tuzson János Botanical Garden
Located next to the University of Nyíregyháza, the primary purpose of the botanical garden is to support education and research, but it is also a natural attraction. Its vast 5.6 acres area is home to more than 2,500 plant species from around the world. The Japanese Garden-pond is home to colourful water lilies and lotuses, and other Asian plants such as a magnolia tree, cotoneaster and bamboo. The "Tree of Life" stands in the 600-square-metre Amusement Park, with a canopy of ever-changing flowers Renewed several times a year: bulbous plants in spring and annual ornamental monocarps in summer. The largest collection of houseleek in Hungary can be seen in the Cactus House opposite the Amusement Park, while in the Grove of Giants you can admire redwoods, swamp cypresses and maidenhair ferns, but also the Medicinal and Herb Garden and a hedge maze is also included. Their greenhouses are home to tropical plants: orchids, palms, cacti, growing banana trees, and special rarities such as carnivorous plants and Amazonian giant waterlily.
