Check out the southern shore of Lake Balaton!

The Gömbkilató (Spherical Lookout Tower) in Balatonboglár, with its panoramic view of Badacsony, is one of the most iconic sights in Somogy County. It’s no wonder, since the 15-metre-diameter structure on the 60-metre-high Castle Hill (Várdomb) sits like a light snow globe in the black pine forest. The lookout tower itself is a great photo subject, but, of course, it is the best with the view of Lake Balaton.

Paddle down the steaming stream!

Hévíz is not only worth a visit for those who would like to recover in the waters of this internationally exceptional lake. You can also make special excursions in the area in autumn. The Hévíz water rafting tour, for example, is an amazing experience, a great autumn activity to jump in a canoe and paddle on the steaming Hévíz Stream. Of course, it’s not only the silence of nature that relaxes you, but also the autumnal landscape; the sight of water plants in shades of beige and brown is special, as well.

Pay tribute at the altar of pleasures

Autumn photo collections should not be without a wine region or a few rows of vines. Visit Tokaj! Try the world-famous aszú wine or taste the overwhelming essence of Tokaj. The latter is made in a non-traditional way: the grapes slowly drip out a thick nectar without pressing, which is then fermented for years. The essence has a very rich aroma, high sugar and low alcohol content. It is a perfect dessert wine!

Go on a time travel in Gyula

Speaking of sweets, if you are in the eastern part of the country, Gyula and the famous Hundred-Year-Old Confectionery is also a great destination if you want a really atmospheric photo! In the building, which had been operated as a pharmacy until 1839, you can sip a hot chocolate in the Louis XVI and empire-style building and then explore the confectionery museum.

Budakeszi Wildlife Park awaits you with deer watching

The falling leaves and autumn forest alone are worth a stroll in Budakeszi Wildlife Park. Deer, roe deer, mouflon and fallow deer are among the more than 50 species of animals that live here. What’s more, you can get up close and personal with them in the petting ZOO, so it goes without saying that a great photo is guaranteed!

Wind your way through the deep forest

Take a ride on one of the oldest forest railways in the country, the Pálházi State Forest Railway, in the fabulous Zemplén! During the 40-minute drive, you will have plenty of time to admire the colour of the falling leaves and, of course, take some shots to make the trip unforgettable. A special feature of the train line is that the train runs through the narrowing valley, an arm’s length from the trees, and at the Stone Gate station, it also passes through a tunnel carved into the rock.

Fish soup, goulash and others

Along with hot tea, hot soup is one of autumn’s essentials. There’s no question that your autumn album can’t be complete without a gently steaming fish soup or a rich goulash. Take a look at the country’s authentic restaurants and choose the one that suits you best: are you looking for a place with sophisticated gastronomy in the countryside or a traditional tavern atmosphere? Either way, you can do well with both!

Get enchanted in Lillafüred

Lillafüred, a little jewel box in the valley of the Szinva Stream, with Lake Hámori and the Palace Hotel (Palotaszálló), is a fabulous topic of photographs. Take a boat ride on the lake, and don’t miss the waterfall falling from a height of 20 metres, take a dip in the Anna and St. Stephen’s Caves, and finally, finish the trip with a taste of the local trout!

Chestnut tasting in the centre of Szeged

In the autumn, it is a great time to explore the rural county seats. In addition to sightseeing, it is also a good time to indulge in gastronomic delights. You can visit Szeged, the Cathedral (Dóm), the former synagogue, the beautiful Art Nouveau buildings, such as the Reök Palace, the confectionery shops of Kárász Street and, of course, the chestnuts, which are the best when freshly baked and hot!
