Fresh artisan baked goods with extras, at the ‘Seven Breads Eco Guesthouse’.
In the Seven Breads Eco Guesthouse on Hideg Hill in the Balaton Highlands, guests can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Lake Balaton, the silence of nature and delicious snacks. The guest house, designed by architect Gyöngyvér Kazinczy, is not only a simple accommodation, but also an example of how to live without utilities. Ideal for 4 people, the cottage is self-catering, which is an exciting thing to experience. Rainwater is collected in a cistern, and electricity and heat are provided by a fireplace and renewable energy. What’s more, the breakfast at Seven Breads is sublime: seasonal items from the garden and local producers are served. Cheeses, truffle specialities, jams, dairy products – everything is absolutely delicious. The baked goods are a special highlight, as they are made in the artisan bakery next door. Gyöngyvér’s husband, István Bodor makes bread, cakes and pizza in their own oven – fresh and crispy.
A culinary excursion in a 19th century watermill, the Almalomb (‘Apple Foliage’)
The Almalomb in Hosszúhetény is a 19th century water mill turned a gastronomic gem. The latest renovated feature of the Culinary Excursion and Meeting Place is the apartment house, an architecturally protected building complex. Also dating from the early 19th century, this cosy little farmhouse has 6 rooms renovated in different styles. As we have come to expect from the owners of Almalomb (and the Ybl Prize-winning architect Margit Pelényi, who contributed to the renovation), the early 19th century cottage was reimagined with maximum respect for architectural tradition and sustainability. Their taste is admirable, with exciting contemporary solutions to the great elements of folk architecture. If you stay here, expect a delicious breakfast. If you choose Almalomb, be sure to visit the mill museum and take a pleasant stroll through the buildings; there are so many surprises in store.
