One of the most popular leisure activities of the Scandinavian peoples is sauna, which is inimitably refreshing not only because of sitting in a perspiring cabin, but also because of the subsequent icy plunge. In Hungary, we do not have the opportunity to cut a hole in the frozen sea, but we can take a dip in Lake Balaton after getting out of the heat. We show you where this is possible!

Lelle-style panoramic relaxation at BL YachtClub

In the wellness section of the BL YachtClub in Balatonlelle, you can also find 2 Finnish saunas, but the 18-person panoramic sauna installed directly on the pier has greatly added to the popularity of Balaton in the off-season. The cabin offers a stunning panoramic view of the frozen Lake Balaton, and if have greater powers of endurance, you can even walk into the Hungarian sea after the heat. You do not even need to sign in to the sauna, which is also available for external guests, it is enough to arrive during the opening hours. The four-star accommodation is also a great choice in winter, and in its restaurant, in addition to the buffet breakfast and lunch, the chef's seasonal offer also promises culinary delights. In the colder months, we should warm up in the winter-garden, for example with a fragrant mulled wine.

Sweat in Szigliget, just a few metres from Lake Balaton

Anyone who has already visited Szigliget is certainly familiar with the sauna built on the beach in Szigliget, from where a short, constructed walkway leads all the way into Lake Balaton. The building has two Finnish saunas and an infrared sauna with showers, and if you do not want to go out into the minuses, you can watch the Balaton landscape sleeping in its winter sleep while relaxing on the deck-chairs in front of the sauna. Relaxing sweating is super solo fun, but you can even come as a team – it is a great social experience to splash around in the ice-cold Balaton together. The sauna opens every year at the beginning of October, and its use requires a prior telephone appointment.

Finnish delights in Siófok, next to the skating rink

On the Siófok beach, you will also find two wood-burning mobile saunas if you want to warm up from the minuses. The Finnish sauna for 8-9 or 5-6 people is located directly on the lake shore, the icy Lake Balaton is really only a few steps away from the small cabins. In the saunas, during the winter season, you can also take part in thematic infusions, among other things you can try birching or essential oil programmes. If you are not splashing in Lake Balaton, you can take a dip in the 20- and 40-degree pools next to the cabins.

The saunas also include heated women's and men's changing rooms, washrooms, hot water showers and heated rest rooms. As in the case of the sauna in Szigliget, in Siófok we also have the possibility to rent the entire sauna for private use, which is an excellent weekend programme for groups of 3-8 people.

Hello Hungary hint: Just a stone's throw from the sauna, on the Petőfi promenade, you can find the first new-wave café of the town. In addition to the specialty coffee variations, you can also visit for brunch, but for breakfast they also offer various cakes, sandwiches and fresh baked goods.

Panoramic sauna in one of the country's most impressive FamilyParks

Although the Mövenpick BalaLand FamilyPark in Szántód is especially worth visiting with small children, the family wellness section is also magical, with its exotic Hawaiian theme fitting in with Willy Fog's travel locations. In addition to the many services, we warmly recommend the warmest room in the park: the panoramic Finnish sauna in the gallery. From the almost completely glazed sauna, you can calmly watch the children playing, the endlessly bustling slide park, and the ice-cold Lake Balaton, in which you can even take a dip after the heat. For intoxicating sweating, it is worth buying a day ticket, which can be used by all members of the family.

Hello Hungary hint: One level down, you can feel like you are in Italy in a few minutes! Tico Restaurant welcomes guests with fresh pizzas baked on a stone, which is not to be missed when visiting BalaLand.
