Estate tour with wine tasting at the Folly Arboretum
The magnificent Folly Arboretum and Winery – or, as many refer to it, the “Garden of Eden of Lake Balaton” – is a place that everyone should visit at least once. In the historic Badacsonyörs Arboretum, you can admire unique evergreens, magnificent cedars and cypresses, as well as trees that are over 100 years old. Folly’s unique flora and microclimate enchant visitors in every season, and thanks to the countless outdoor play elements, even the youngest visitors can enjoy themselves to their heart’Scontent.
The five-acre evergreen garden features all species of cypress trees in the world, as well as all four basic species of cedar trees.
In addition to the numerous advertised events, you can also take part in a wine dinner, or go on a tour of the estate combined with a tasting. As part of the program, we can learn about the grape varieties native to this region and taste Folly’ award-winning wines. A gift certificate redeemable for the program can be an excellent surprise for food lovers.
A splash as a gift
Thanks to Hungary’ exceptional hydrography, wherever we go, we can easily find a thermal or medicinal bath nearby. Nowadays, visiting a spa means much more than just relaxing in thermal waters: domestic service providers offer a wide range of health-conscious and family-friendly programs, as well as many additional services. Animation activities, a rich gastronomic offer, themed sauna evenings, and various wellness rituals – the selection is extremely rich!
A family or couple’s spa pass can also be an excellent gift idea, and the Hungarian Spa Association’s website can help you choose. The association, which brings together economic organizations and entrepreneurs operating spas, has been involved in preserving and developing the traditions of Hungarian spa culture for more than three decades, making it a reliable starting point for anyone looking to give a valuable and sophisticated gift during the holiday season.
Gastronomic delights at Rutin in Budaörs
In Budaörs, on the border between Ófalu and Kertváros, we find a gastronomic haven that is second to none: Dávid Pallag and his wife, Fanni Pallag, run one of the most beloved establishments in the area. The progressive restaurant prepares its dishes using ingredients sourced from local producers, paying tribute to the excellent small-scale farmers and their products found in the area. At Rutin, you can enjoy an entire evening of gastronomic delights, which cannot and should not be rushed.
The ten-course tasting menu includes Hungarian classics such as hentestokány (butcher’s pork stew), Jókai bean soup, and túrós tészta (pasta with cottage cheese) – all with a twist that makes the experience truly unique. Creativity, seasonality, all served up in a lovable package. The MICHELIN-recommended restaurant earned a new title in 2025: Chef Dávid Pallag was elected “Young Chef of the Year” by the MICHELIN Guide. You can also give an entire evening’s dining experience in the form of a gift certificate, which can be an excellent surprise under the Christmas tree!
Tickets and passes for our festival-going loved ones
Tickets for several excellent domestic festivals went on sale at the end of this year, providing an excellent opportunity to sneak a slice of next summer under the Christmas tree. Permanent tickets for the Ördögkatlan Festival are already available, and at a very discounted price. The same applies to the Művészetek Völgye (Valley of Arts) Festival, which can even be ordered as a Christmas package. Permanent tickets for couples come with a gift during the holiday season. Ticket sales have also opened for the VéNégy Fesztivál és Színházi Találkozó (VéNégy Festival and Theater Meeting) in Nagymaros; season tickets can be purchased at half price during the holiday season. Last but not least: tickets for the Kerekdomb Festival are also discounted before the holidays, and you can even purchase a Wine Passport, which allows you to taste the special wines of Tállya’s wineries throughout the festival!
