According to a relatively recent survey, women buy more wine than men worldwide. It is a fact that women and men make choices based on different motivations. While women see wine much more as an essential accessory for family and friend gatherings, men show a passion for collecting, sometimes boasting or even an investment factor.
According to a relatively recent survey, women buy more wine than men worldwide. It is a fact that women and men make choices based on different motivations. While women see wine much more as an essential accessory for family and friend gatherings, men show a passion for collecting, sometimes boasting or even an investment factor.

Historical prejudices against women in winemaking persisted for centuries, which is evident in the XVII and XVIII centuries in Europe. Here, mostly only courtesans got access to drinking places reserved exclusively for men. This exclusion continued in the New World, where private gentlemen's clubs and dinner parties maintained the male-centric atmosphere associated with intellectual sophistication.

The wine expert wine drinkers are on the wane

We also hear more and more about the decline in the number of future wine consumers. Among young people, those who drink alcoholic beverages are much more likely to look for cocktails and stronger drinks - this can be for both financial and lifestyle reasons. Enjoying wine requires some prior study, time and, above all, good companions, which today's young people often lack. And wine, with its thousands of years of culture in Europe, should not be erased from people's minds. This may very well depend on the influences on the members of the growing generations during childhood. The fact that maternal care has a positive effect on children during development is also increasingly known. The two things go perfectly together here.

Many people think - and not without reason - that women have a greater influence on what our children are able to absorb from the world and culture around them, in addition to the genes they bring. Their responsibility is usually greater than that of men. Simply because even today women typically spend more time with children. What kind of eating habits develop in a family also mostly depends on the women. This includes the question of the textile table-cloth as well as where and how the children celebrate. In this context, we Hungarians should determine the place and role of wine at the family table.

Many such and similar questions will arise at the round table discussion, where two excellent producers and an entrant trader will share their thoughts - and their wines - with the audience.

Let's talk about wine in Veszprém!

The attractiveness of Veszprém is not only due to its proximity to Lake Balaton. Balatonalmádi, Balatonfüred, Csopak, Paloznak and the other surrounding settlements are now great places for excursions even for people living further away. In addition to good wines, sophisticated gastronomy and, thanks to the developments of recent years, the beautiful elements of the built culture also call us.

At the beginning of September, the Balaton Wine & Gourmet Festival in Veszprém and in the surrounding settlements is an excellent opportunity to get to know each other, go for a trip, and relax. On the shore of Balaton, in the nearby Balatonfüred-Csopak Wine Region, you can taste the best Italian Rieslings from Balaton, but there are also a good number of furmints and red wines, which belong to the best of the domestic offer. In Csopak, it is worth visiting, among others, the Homola Cellar, the Jásdi Cellar, the Szent Donát, or the Petrányi Cellar, but the Figula Cellar and the Zelna Winery in Balatonfüred are equally unmissable wineries.
