From the field to the basket: Special manufacturers all over the country

A true multi-generational family business, “Tekeresvölgyi Családi Birtok” (Tekeresvölgy Family Farm) is one of the unique manufactures on the market, thanks to its outstanding taste and quality. For more than a decade now, week after week, have been making irresistible farmhouse cheeses at the factory with the co-operations of fifty Hungarian Spotted Cows. An important goal of the Tekeresvölgyi family is to make the world of farm products more popular and to show how much it means to eat quality food. Besides animal husbandry, milk processing and cheese making, the farm offers cheese tasting and other unusual backyard activities.

The south of Hungary is a particularly good place for fruit: the sunny countryside and the expertise of the farmers in Homokhát produce juicy and first-class produce. The Heart of Homokhátság Fruit and Vegetable Processing Start Social Cooperative is located in the heart of Homokhátság, in Bordány.  Interestingly, the factory is based on a social cooperative that works to reduce local unemployment and promote local ingredients. The “Legjava Manufaktúra” (The Best Manufactory) processes locally grown fruit and vegetables to make sauces, jams and creams, and curiosities such as gerbeaud jam, champagne peach jam and rosé strawberry barbecue sauce.

The father and son's passion for wine and nature led to the founding of an artisan cider factory in 2017, and they established “BudaPrés Cider” (BudaPress Cider) was established. The juices here are made from 100 per cent fresh Hungarian apples. The special sparkling ciders are a match for Western competitors. The family estate in Etyek is constantly expanding. Although cider consumption in Hungary is still in its infancy, “BudaPrés” (BudaPress) alternative thinking, sophisticated taste and respect for quality can help Hungarian cider culture to flourish.

Fajsz Paprika Manufactory is also a family farm, which has been producing ground paprika by hand, using traditional methods, since 1990. Their multiple award-winning peppers represent the highest level of the Hungarian market: In 2020, they achieved an extraordinary result at the Great Taste Awards, winning the "Oscar award for spices".

In Bekölce, near Eger, two young people, Anna Juhász and Dávid Goldmann have built their chemical-free farm from zero, with the slogan “Farming is cool!". Their sustainable model uses farming systems based on natural ecological processes: on the farm, for example, all living creatures are provided with adequate, free living space, and loving care. By buying a pecking chicken from here, we have already taken a step towards protecting our planet and our health.
