If it's New Year's in Hajdúszoboszló, it's whipcrack.
According to legend, on 31 December, 1559, the Turkish army attacking “Szoboszló” was driven away with the sound of bells and the cracking of whips. This triumph has been celebrated every year since then. The New Year’s Eve whipcrack will not be missed in the main square of the town this year either, which will hopefully drive away the “evil forces” and ensure that the year 2026 will be happy. The free event awaits visitors on 31 December with colourful programmes and concerts.
