The Bükk National Park Directorate’s ecotourism and environmental education center in Mátrafüred, known as Harkály Ház (‘Woodpecker House’), deals with the Mátra in many ways: it presents its formation, landscape history, and wildlife, but we can also get a picture of the nature conservation situation in the mountains and the work of the nature conservation rangers working there. Numerous interactive elements make the exhibition enjoyable: a three-dimensional terrain table shows how volcanic processes shaped the mountains, while maps and projectors illustrate how people have lived here from prehistoric times to the present day. During the virtual flight, we can see the Mátra from above, and in separate rooms we can get an idea of how exciting the forest’s nightlife or underground life is. It could be a great family adventure!
