According to legend, on 31 December 1559, the Turkish army attacking “Szoboszló” was driven off with the sound of bells and the cracking of whips. This victory has been celebrated year after year ever since. This year’s New Year’s Eve celebration on the city’s main square will hopefully once again ward off the “evil forces” and ensure that 2025 will be a happy year. The free event will feature colourful programmes and concerts.
