The way the paddle slides into the Tisza is like nothing else. It is different to row in the Danube, to it at the Lake Balaton, and the list goes on. Tisza has power: a wild energy that is tamed just enough by the submerging paddles to allow the canoe to become one with the water. And this feeling can be experienced even in autumn. We'll show you what to keep in mind when you go for a paddle, and why such a trip is a great way to experience the thrill of the season!

Row, row, row your 'boat' – first you need a good team

Of course, you can also paddle alone. In fact, in some cases the soul needs to be surrounded by nothing but the Tisza and the nature. But we would like to tell you about the classic Tisza trip, the everlasting memories based on a team, with lots of laughter. You can go with family, children, friends, whoever: a tsunami of happiness is guaranteed! While it's more than worth capturing the best moments of the trip – like when someone almost falls into the water – it's worth to put the phone away for the duration of the paddle to really pay attention to each other.

Time dilemma: one day or more?

The first half of autumn, when the summer still leaves us some warm rays to pamper our skin during the day, is usually a busy time for everyone. Luckily, you can also go on one-day trips to the Tisza, when you arrive in the morning and leave in the evening; or, if you have enough spare time, you can surprise yourself with several days of glide on the water. In the latter case, be sure to check what accommodation is available along the route you've chosen!

      Renting a canoe

There are many shops to rent a canoe along the Tisza, you can find the one closest to your chosen route online. Before you go, it's a good idea to contact them via a phone call to make sure they're open; it's also wise to check the number of boats you'll need. It's very inconvenient if one half of the group switches paddling for walking...

Organised activities: the top of the top

It has a particular magic when one yields to the temptation of adventure and juggles between paddling, relaxing, and eating. However, if you like guided tours, there are plenty of opportunities on the Tisza. There's no shortage of excitement, and you'll also have the chance to admire the hidden swamps, see the birds’ life and, if you're lucky, even meet a beaver, an otter or two.

And if you were to "put down the paddle" and replace canoeing with a more comfortable, yet close-to-nature travel experience in the final part of your tour, we warmly recommend holiday boating from early spring to late autumn in the area of Lake Tisza, Upper Tisza, and Bodrog. The holiday boats of MAHART Zrt. can be driven without a boat driver's license, and in the approved water areas suitable for this, you can even sleep on the watercraft. In this way, you can kill two birds with one stone, not to mention the fact that with the slow-moving motor boats that also provide accommodation, you can also dock at the waterside settlements, at various attractions and at some restaurants.

First you got a seat, then you gotta eat

If you go on a Tisza tour, it's important to make sure you recharge your ‘batteries’ after you burned the calories. It's a safe option to bring sandwiches, or picnic snacks that can be carried in a backpack, so you can have a treat whenever you want. Another advantage of autumn canoeing is that water levels are usually lower, which means that sandbanks can be used as spontaneous snacking spots.

Another - but more expensive - option is to explore the local restaurants and bakeries. There are numerour great places to eat are around Lake Tisza. And while you're around, it's worth to try the fish selection for instance at the Keszegeszegető in Sarud, or at the HellóHal snack bar near Tiszafüred, where you'll for sure lick your ten fingers after the site’s offer. Before you set out for the trip, it’s worth to check the autumn opening times! Come on now, head for the Tisza, where those who are eager to go for canoe trip, can not only gather unforgettable experiences, but also a particular freedom and fun.
