Many parents keep a seemingly endless bucket list of great family-friendly destinations across the country, so that when school holidays or free weekends approach, all they have to do is choose where to take the group. Now we show you an excellent place in Pécs, in the heart of the Mecsek, where visitors can find everything from active programmes to gastronomic delights to breathtaking panoramas.

Local success story, national attraction

In addition to its countless values and cultural heritage, Pécs can also boast of being home to the country's tallest building! The 197-metre-high TV tower was built in 1973, and since the 1970s, a restaurant has also operated next to it: the Misina Restaurant operated for two decades, later it functioned as a place of amusement, and then it underwent a complete transformation in 2024. The complex, built on the site of the former restaurant, took shape during a community brainstorming session, during which locals could vote for the building design they liked the most. Thus, the Misina TetőPont Family and Movement Space has become exactly the place that the people of Pécs have long dreamed of: a modern family centre, where those who like active and passive recreation can also find their accounts. The complex is therefore not only a place for excursions in Pécs, but also the realization of a community dream.

Here you can find an exciting playground, a café, a canopy bridge, excellent hiking trails – and a breathtaking panorama of the landscape beneath our feet!

A cavalcade of programmes on top of the mountain

The location in the heart of Mecsek is inseparable from nature: the TV tower rising among the trees and the modern building complex located right next to it are a real treasure in the depths of the forest. The playground and outdoor fitness park located around Misina TetőPont are worth a longer trip in themselves. The park, ideal for different age groups, also has slides, creative play elements, climbing frames and a trampoline, and the outdoor fitness park, with its modern equipment, is excellent for various sports activities, such as street workout and functional training. In case of longer hiking or exhausting training, it is worth using the safe in the basement of the building, but there are also toilets and showers here, which can be used by both local residents and visitors.

One of the most exciting and spectacular elements of the area is the canopy bridge, which extends 12 metres high and 30 metres long above the trees. The building element above the playground offers a stunning panorama of Pécs and the Hármashegy. But the view from the bridge is not only worth admiring during the day: the sunrise is breathtaking from here, and after dark, the illuminated building complex and the lights of the town provide an imposing sight.

If you need a little energy, Misina Café, located opposite the playground, is a perfect choice. The café is not only for coffee lovers: it offers the delicacies of the Frey confectionery, including gluten-, dairy- and sugar-free cakes, so everyone can find their favourite. The modern yet close-to-nature design provides the perfect setting for a chat with friends or a quiet time while the children have fun outdoors. In good weather, you can watch the little ones from the terrace, making Misina TetőPont a truly family-friendly place to relax.

Last but not least, if you want to go hiking, there are great hiking trails starting from Misina, which can be done even with small children or baby carriers. Along the former ski slope, a sloping path leads to Kis-rét, which is easily accessible for families and an excellent picnic spot. The Rotary nature trail is a wonderful circular walk around Misina-tető, from which you can reach the highlights of the area, such as the Kis-Tubes and Nagy-Tubes lookouts. More routes can be found on the website of the Misinatető!

Mecsek giant, light railway and zoo nearby!

Nearby is the recently renovated Fairytale Forest of Pécs, where you can learn about the tales of King Dömör during a 12-station walk. In the park, animals carved from wood, fairy-tale huts and fairy statues surround our path, and finally, the bravest can even climb into the mouth of the Mecsek giant – of course, only if they dare! Next to the Fairytale Forest, you can find the Mecsek Light Railway, which leaves from Dömörkapu every 20 minutes and returns to the same place. For animal adventures, visit the Pécs Zoo and Aquarium-Terrarium, where you can also meet sharks and Bengal tigers.
