Akali Fish Trail – Balatonakali
If you want to discover the secret water world of Balaton with the children, then head for the Akali Fish Trail! The paved path that runs from the beach to the boat harbour invites you to an exciting trip even in the colder months: with the help of 20 information boards, you can get to know the wildlife of Lake Balaton while walking in the immediate vicinity of the shore. The trail is easy to follow, accessible even with a stroller, making it an ideal choice for the smallest children. You can learn a lot of interesting facts about fish, birds and aquatic plants – i.e. the wildlife of the Hungarian sea. After the tour, you can relax in the Akali Port, where excellent Mediterranean dishes await even in the colder months!
Haláp Nature Trail – Zalahaláp
Let's take a hike on the side of a former volcano and discover the secrets of the rocks even in winter! The 3-kilometre Haláp Nature Trail runs next to Zalahaláp and presents the special volcanic formations of the mountain through 10 stations. The nature trail is easy to walk and ideal for children, and along the way you can discover many lesser-known geological attractions. On the tour, you can get to know the basalt layers, and during the walk, you will be presented with an unparalleled panorama at several points. If you can, bring a camera, because the view, but also the nature trail itself, is a magnificent photo subject!
Kékkúti Mineral Water Nature Trail – Kékkút
The Kékkúti Mineral Water Nature Trail offers a special adventure in a wonderful small settlement where nature and water meet. The nature trail takes its name from the famous mineral waters of Kékkút and it presents the operation of local springs, the water cycle and the geological treasures of the area in an exciting manner. Interactive boards, crystal clear springs and stunning views await you here, while children can playfully learn about the importance of water. Within a short walk, you can also visit the Theodora spring, where you can fill your water bottles with fresh mineral water! We warmly recommend the Kőkút Kert Vendéglő in Kékkút, which offers home-made Hungarian dishes, as a closing of the day.
Lombkorona Nature Trail – Balatonboglár
Take an adventure through the treetops and enjoy the stunning view! Many adventures await on the approximately 60-metre-high Várdomb - not only in summer, but also in the off-season! The Lombkorona Nature Trail in Balatonboglár leads along the crown level of the trees, from which you can discover the forest and the landscape beneath your feet from a bird's eye view. In some sections, there are also swing beds and lookouts to relax and enjoy the scenery. A little higher up - also on the Várdomb - is the Xantus János Sphere Lookout, which is open every day of the year, and it is believed that the structure offers one of the most beautiful views of the southern coast. Várdomb is full of life in the summer, but it is also really worth visiting this wonderful place in the colder months.
Madárles and Csillagvárta – Csopak
Let's explore the birdlife during the day, and when night falls, let's look at the stars! Madárles and Csillagvárta in Csopak are both ideal choices for fans of nature and astronomy. During daylight hours, you can observe various species of birds, for which you can also use the binoculars available in the building. And if you arrive after sunset, stargazing is possible under the clear sky. In addition to the bird watching, there is also a playground, but it is also an excellent destination for bicycle tours. Nearby you can find the Buborék Pékbisztró, where they offer excellent coffee and pastries, but you can even stay at their accommodation, which is open all year round.
Volcano Nature Trail – Mencshely
Let's go in search of volcanoes in the Balaton Highlands! On the Volcano Nature Trail in Mencshely, you have the opportunity to get to know up close how volcanic activity shaped this beautiful region. On the nature trail, you will find exciting interactive boards and spectacular rock formations, also interesting for children, which present the history of volcanism. The path that is easy to follow offers an enjoyable trip for all ages: you can descend into the crater of a volcano, but you can also climb up to the Kossuth Lookout, from where you can see your favourite lake in addition to the Balaton-shaped gravel bed!
