Vay-kastély

The Renaissance castle of Vaja in Nyírség region is one of the unmissable sights of the Upper Tisza region. The magnificent building, named after the Vay family, must have been built in the early 15th century, and as it was never of military importance, it has retained its original charm. Ferenc Rákóczi II came here twice to negotiate with the legendary leader of the Kuruc groups, Ádám Vay. The castle is surrounded by a romantic park and hosts a museum.
