The foundations of one of the best preserved Renaissance castles in Hungary were actually laid in the 13th century: it was originally built in Gothic style by Simon, the governor of the province, son of Solomon of the Döröcske family, after whom the castle and later the town were named. The south wing is already a Renaissance building: the gate tower and the old tower were completed at the beginning of the 16th century. The upstairs rooms house temporary exhibitions. It is worth participating in a guided tour to learn about the castle.
