Sárospataki vár

The most significant monument of Sárospatak is the Rákóczi Castle, which is a very valuable work of late Renaissance architecture in Hungary. Built in the 16th century as the centre of a private landowner’s estate, the castle is now the country’s most important Rákóczi cult site, and the Rákóczi Museum of the Hungarian National Museum is also housed here. The oldest part of the castle is the Red Tower, which is worth a guided tour. Be sure to visit the Lorántffy Loggia connecting the east wing and the tower!
