National Hersmen’s Contest and Shepherds’ Festival

With hundreds of years of history, herdsman is one of our oldest professions, and its traditions are still proudly preserved by shepherds and herdsmen in many parts of the country, who look after the grey cattle in the traditional cold conditions. At the National Hersmen’s Contest and Shepherds’ Festival on 18 May, herdsmen and replacement tamers will compete in classic shepherding activities such as drawing water from a heron well, counting animals, reading ear ID numbers, using a hoop whip and throwing a herdsmen’s stick. In the meantime, a real shepherd’s crock-pot meal awaits hungry visitors. The event can be visited free of charge.
